Ok, I want to ask this while they're still available...

Is the PSP 2000 significantly better than the 3000 screen-wise? I've got a 1000 right now, and I want to get a unit with a bit more battery life. I was thinking a 3000, but then I heard that the screens aren't as nice on em. I can still get a new 2000 locally, so I might go that route if they're better.

Any recommendations? Can the 2000 still be hooked up to the TV to play games?

2000 can be hooked up to a TV to play games (via component cables ONLY) and to watch movies (RCA cables).

I like 2000 more than 3000, but which model 2000 are you able to get?

3000's use the same cable to hook up to the TV.

Why not just wait for the 4000? They'll have fixed the screen issues by then.

The only other difference they have is that the 3000 has a built in microphone. Other than that, aside from being unable to get custom firmware(though through exploits only can emulators be used,) the 2000 and 3000 are pretty much identical(there are a couple things move around, like the home key is now the PS logo, etc.)

Yes, but RCA cables cannot be used to play games, however. Component can do both, though.

My buddy has a PSP-3000 and I've noticed that the screen is *slightly* crisper, but it was definitely nothing to write home about.

However, if you have even a remote interest in the homebrew scene, I would highly suggest getting a PSP-2000 (especially the silver, white or red special editions as they're guaranteed to work with custom firmware). The various kinds of applications and emulators available are nothing short of ridiculous. Yeah, you can run CFW on the ol' phat, but the 2000 has twice the amount of internal memory available (and some homebrew takes advantage of this). Like Kupomogli said, you can run homebrew on the 3000 also, but only with some tricky exploits and even then not everything is compatible.

Either slim model is fine if you're only interested in playing the few good PSP games available. But that's only the tip of the iceberg, my friend, and I think that it would be a great disservice to not take advantage of everything available for this fine handheld! Just throwin' it out there!

Heh...thanks for all the input people!

I'm looking at a standard black PSP-2000...I HATE colored units.

I have zero interested in modification or homebrew....all I play are legit games. I don't really run emulation on any systems cause I buy the original games anyway :D

I have zip for interest in the PSP-4000 because it's reputed not to have a UMD drive and I have 25 or 30 UMD games. If there's going to be some sort of UMD support for the 4000, I'll wait, otherwise, it's looking more and more like a 2000 is my best bet. I'd be using component cables to run to the TV anyway.

I have a red GoW slim and I can't get over how much I love that thing. I take it everywhere and run nearly everything on it, tried out a TG-16 emulator and decided to get rid of my Turbo Express on the spot.

Same thing for me except I also got rid of my GB, GBA, and Lynx systems & games too.

Be careful. Some 2000 models cannot have CFW installed. If this is ok, no problem.

Be aware that the 2000 can only output videogames to a progressive scan display. Plenty of 480i CRT's have component inputs, and the 2000 won't work in that situation.

The 3000 however can display to either interlaced or progressive scan displays. I'm pretty happy with the PSP 3000 and recommend that one.

Cool, did not know that! Thanks for the info! :)
