hey guys
i found a model 1 genesis
I didn't find the power supply....
but i wanted to ask can i use a Rf from an old NES system? and a psu from a model 2 genesis???
Or i really need a specific psu??
I have those all in 1 psu i used for guitar pedals it has all style of plugs & voltage i can set...
maybe this would work...

NES ac adapter will fry it. it's 9VAC, the genny 1 takes 9VDC

The Genesis 1 and 2 have different power supplies.
If you're going to use the multi-psu make sure that it provides at least 1000mA and set the polarity as center negative.

yeah, the rf is fine. The Model 2 Genesis ac adapter won't work simply because the plug is not the same. Most of those multi- ac adapters have low (~300mA) amperage. I think the original Genesis adapter was 9 volt at up to 1 Amp (the same specs that your model 2 adapter says, anyway). If your multi-ac thing has at least 900mA, it will likely work, but you also need to match the tip polarity, which I don't recall offhand. should be able to google that though.
Don't try your NES ac adapter on the Genesis though. It puts out AC current and you need DC. (going the other way is fine, fyi).

Model 1 takes a very special power supply, your best bet is to buy one off of eBay or somewhere else.

I'm fairly certain that the Model 1 Genesis, the SegaCD, and the Master System all have interchangeable power supplies.
Also, the NES RF adapter will work, but in my experience, it is NOT pretty. Buy a good set of cables for it-- there are composite cables made for it, you do NOT have to use RF. And, in fact, I recommend you avoid RF's whenever possible -- the only excuse you have for it is Famicom and older.

thanks guys
so basicly ill just wait to get the proper ones....
dedicated for the system...
But the power adapter i will only try my ''multi psu i have here''
not the nes one , since i know it cannot match anything else than the nes LOL
got to learn the hard way .......;)

are you sure the NES RF will work? i tried it before and i get some sort of lines running across the screen. Perhaps that was my AC adapter though...

I hooked up my Model 1 Genesis using an NES RF and I don't remember there being any problems. It's a standard hookup, I remember there being aftermarket RF switches from Radioshack that would work on any console that used the same type of RF output. The only time the RF wouldn't work properly is if it was wearing out, I've come across plenty of those too and those looked terrible or wouldn't work at all with any console.

My experience with the Genesis is that if the AC adapter will fit in the port then it should work. The RF switch is pretty much a basic RF with the Gen1 so that should be easy.

If you don't mind using a gray RF adapter for a black system then a NES RF cord will work fine with your Genesis.
All you need to know is that the Sega brand power supply you will need for the Model 1 Genesis should have the number "1602" on the back in small print. That is if you get a first party Sega cord. Any first party Sega cord with "2103" on the back isn't compatible since that is a Genesis 2 cord.

Open the console and try the switch. Many of the Genesis I've repaired have had the power "switch" on the console's shell dislodged from the rail and fail to activate the actual switch underneat:
