Hello i recently picked up a 60gb ps3 so am very happy to play some old games :D
But i was wondering if i would be able to play ntsc formatted ps1 and ps2 games on it i only ask as a friend of mine is coming back from the states and has a bundle of games for me and im hopeing to not have to purchase more consoles just so i can play them.

Older games are region locked to their region. If its a PAL 60GB unit, then no, NTSC games won't work. If its a US system you're good to go.
The only games the PS3 can play w/o problems anywhere are the PS3 games as they are the regionless.

Let me add a bit more, both PSP and PS3 have the ability to lock out via region but it's at the developers / publishers discretion to enable in title. This was not the case with PlayStation and PS2 as everything was locked at the hardware level.

I had a funny feeling that was the case but i thought i would ask , oh well i got a few weeks before he comes back so i better get online and do some shopping :D
