I was wondering if anybody else has had this problem before or knows of a way to fix it. My 32X works perfectly fine when playing 32X carts but for some strange reason when I switch over to play Genesis or Sega CD games the color will go to black & white for some screens.(Ex. In Judge Dredd the story screens will be B&W but the standard playable game screens will go back to color, it's random for each game.)

It might be that the 32X to Genesis cable is damaged.

Thanks for the suggestion I'll try to get another cable when I can to test it out.

It doesn't sound like a cable issue to me.
Maybe it's just a bug that's caused by your particular hardware configuration.

Yeah sometimes hardware configurations are weird. Like I had a Pioneer LaserActive running Sega Genesis games. It would display perfectly fine on a couple of my TVs but it wouldn't show up correctly on the others. My LaserActive shorted out on me and I still haven't taken it in to have it looked at for getting an internal power supply replacement.

I also have a Colecovision that displays in colors on my newer TVs but shows up black and white on my older color TVs for some reason. I think a weak RF plug or something on the system is my problem there.

Sometimes these old things don't make much sense when it comes to their faults. It sucks whenever things like this happen.

sounds to me like the composite cable.. mine has done that in the past and i recently replaced the composite cable and it works great now.. no black and white/grays etc..

Going to have to dig around my room I know I have an extra set of video cables to test the 32X with.

Well finally got around to testing out a different A/V cable and I still get the black & white picture so I might try to get another 32X if I can. If anybody else has any guesses on the problem I'd love the help.

Disassemble the 32X and clean all the ribbon cable pins. That's usually to fix issues with games freezing randomly but it never hurts to try much anything.

Tried cleaning the ribbon cables but sadly that didn't fix the problem. I did find one game that doesn't go black & white and that's my pirate copy of Bare Knuckle 3.

The only option left is to clean the pin connectors. Scrub them with 90% rubbing alcohol and get a cart slot cleaner for the Genesis.

Cleaned the cart slot and still didn't fix the problem. I think I'll just only hook the 32X up to play 32X games like I've been doing and maybe one day try and get another 32X system and see what happens.

Are you playing on a hdtv? Sounds like your games are changing resolutions for various portions of it, and some of them don't quite agree with your television.

Just a guess.

Not using an HDTV, using an old 19inch Sanyo CRT I got 10 years ago.

What happens in games like Judge Dredd if the accessories like the 32X aren't attached?

Without the 32X attached Genesis games play perfectly fine. It's really odd cause I've never had this problem with any other 32X I've owned over the years.
