Rebuilding N64 Analog Stick

As with many N64 controllers I had one that had a "wobbly" and "loose" Analog stick. I had a broken controller with a perfect analog stick so I swapped the stick out and now I have a really good working controller.

Now my question is, is there a way to rebuild the old, wobbly, loose analog stick? I cracked open the housing and took a peek, but i'm not sure what I am looking for. Is there anything I can do to make it (Trying to sound as least sexual as possible here:p) tight and stiff again?

Not that I've found, but if someone knows, I will try anything at this point -- with six controllers and four ports, I can stand to break a couple, especially when there's only one controller with a GOOD stick still.

That good stick is only "good" because I replaced it, much like you mentioned doing. My solution?

Thanks for the heads up. It's certainly not a bad Idea at that price and I might just buy a few to stockpile so I can still game on my N64 controller 40 years from now! LOL!

I just can't force myself to throw away the old analog stick. I'm sure there is someway to rebuild it...

Crack open the controller, open the casing with the joystick in it, then rebuild it. The problem is usually the spring. Just remember how to put it back together again! Those joystick casings are a b!tch. I bought a gold controller for about $1 (105yen) that was really in need of some viagra. With a bit of work and attention, I was able to get it to stand up straight and hard again. Unfortunately, my wife didn't seem to care.

I had a go using the tutorial from mmmonkey's website here (http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/nintendo/n64cont.htm). It improved the analogue stick a little, but it was still pretty damn wobly. I think the stick was too far worn and the extra pressure from the spring wasnt actually doing anything as the black bracket had already bottomed out. :S
