just as the topic states, I decided to start playing my copy of gears, but it has disc burn so I am stuck at the part right after getting past the evil bats or whatever.

I know that when I had this problem with Rock Band, I just bitched to the company a bunch and got a new copy, but I can't find a way to contact Epic games.

Would I contact Microsoft instead?

Who should I be bitching to so I can get a new copy sent to me?
(I noticed that on the net, if you do enough bitching to the company, they will hook you up to shut you up)

Sorry to sound dumb but what do you mean by "burn-in"? I tried googling the term but all I get is links to CD/DVD burners...

Yeah, I probably said the wrong thing. Let me switch up the topic header. Thanks

Do you have the manual for the game? It usually tells you in the back of game manuals who to contact if your game has defects.

"Microsoft Corporation, One Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA 98052-6399, USA"

That would seem to be the first place to contact. I take it it's just a pressing defect rather than any damage caused to the disc?

It is that issue where the 360 puts a scratched ring around the game.

Before you guys say anything. I keep my system horizontal, well ventilated, and on a place that does not really have vibrations

Since it's published by Microsoft, and it's on a Microsoft system, they'd be the only ones who could help you.

I was afraid of that.

Spending $20 for their replacement program sucks.

I actually called them and the dude I talked with was pretty tongue tied. I don't think he had a clue what he was talking about.

He told me that the number only deals with the hardware.
So I asked him about a department to get in contact with since they only deal with the hardware.
He said one didn't exist.
So then I said, "Oh, so you guys do handle software issues?"
him: "No"
me: "Ok. Since you don't deal with software issues, that means that with how big Microsoft is, I highly doubt there would not be a department to deal with software issues. How can I contact them?"
him: "We deal with all of these issues."

I am pretty good about making a fuss until something good happens, but this dude was pretty dumb. I say that because I used to take tech support calls for EarthLink, and could handle people asking for stuff through other means. This guy had no clue how to handle people on the phones, more importantly, me.

If I have to contact m$ themselves, I will find a way to get something for free. Hell, I managed that when I had those issues with newegg

If you manage to get the problem fixed for free, let me know how you did it. My Oblivion: GotY disc has the same problem.

you wont get shit for free. you will be forced to pay 20 bucks for a replacement since its not a manufacturing defect but something you did yourself. they dont care how it happened.

a better way would just be to pick up a nice used copy somewhere or go get it rebuffed for like 2-5$.

I will do everything I can, and if I can pull it off (fat chance, but screw it, there is a chance), then I might as well try. I know that in the end, I will end up having to pay the $20 and I understand that, but I figured I might as well stick my nose around a little just to see what happens.

Yes. I know. It sounds dumb. "Oh, he thinks he will make m$ crack", but with the correct wording, and the timing this happened, there is a very small chance that I might be able to pull this off.

Last time I played my Gears outside of a few days ago when I found out about this issue was right around when I sent my 360 in for repairs. They will see that I had reported that as an issue, and that issue has been resolved, but there were some loose ends.

Phone support is a no go, and I can't find their chat option, so I am opting for e-mail. I will see what that turns up.

Yes, Yes. I know that it is probably going to be nothing that turns up, but screw it, I might as well try.

I think the time you'll spend and the stress you'll get is not worth it- despite my morals, the best thing for you to do is to just buy it used at one gamestop, switch dics, and return it at another.

Unless you're out of work and have nothing else to do, I don't see why you would want to waste time talking to morons on the phone.

That was how my disc got messed up too. I was playing through Oblivion, my 360 showed me the red rings and when I tried to start playing Oblivion after the 360 came back, it wouldn't play. Doesn't seem like my fault to me, seems like MS should have to pay for it, they made the 360 with the problem that seems to have caused the disc ring scratch.

Yeah, I found that out with the phone call today. I am going to do it through e-mails. For 10 minutes a day, it might be a fun little hobby for a day or 2.

MS is pretty much your only hope for a replacement shy of buying a used copy somewhere.

I wouldn't count on any help from Epic. They're so mindlessly greedy it's a miracle they don't make you re-purchase their games every 6 months to keep playing. Which, given Mike Capps and his statements on the game market, might just be their business model in the next 2 years.

There is no such thing as 'disc burn'. Throw that vocab away right now. The laser does not have the power to burn anything. What happened was that the lens was too close to the disc and it gouged the disc in the location it was reading.

When my first 360 took the shitter it gouged out a bunch of discs to the point of unplayability. All I needed to do was get some scratch removal compound (findable at any music store), buff it in, let it sit a bit, buff it back out and things were fine.

I was going to suggest that too but I'm glad someone else said it:angel: That way, even when the next person buys it they too can return it. Is it shady? Of course but it's an end to a means.

Have you tried the various home remedies for fixing a CD?

I shit you not, just tonight I tried the boiling water method on my Lost Odyssey Disc 1. It refused to load and would just bring me to the "Please insert this disc in a 360" screen.

Put some water in the microwave for 3 minutes, put the disc in and swirled the disc under the water for a minute, dried it off and it's running and installing to the HD as we speak.

I chatted with papastu at *edit* and he firnly corrected me on the term, hehehe.

I am going to get some scratch remover from gamestop as that was reccomended to me while chatting at *edit*.

I was just trying to get some free shit, I know that when this happened to rock band, even a disc resurface could not help it.
