Yeah, the cart isn't working right on my NES either. Really crap. I guess I do need a new Castlevania III cart. Man, this really bites.
Harsh. Did the cart ever work/was it a recent purchase?

Nope, it used to work. I don't know what the deal was with it. It's just dead now. Bummer.

We got the RetroMini console in our store to test and try out. We are pretty impressed with it, but for us it only appears to have fixed one game that used to have problems. Castlevania III. The following list of games still do not appear to work, can anyone else confirm or deny these? it would be very helpful to us.
Here are the games we normally test these clone systems with that always have problems.
1) Pipe Dreams - We have NEVER EVER seen any clone other than a real NES play this game
2) Battletoads - We have yet to see a clone system that can get to the bike screen. We beleive only real NES can make it all the way down the "swinging down the ropes" part on level 2.
The following games we have found only work on some systems clones and have problems on the FC Twin and the RetroMini and others...
1) Paperboy - start button to start the game still does not function
2) Dragon Warrior 1 - We find that 1 out of every 10 carts does work, it most likely is a revision issue much like Super Mario RPG

I throw up a little inside everytime I see "Retro-Mini."
I don't know what chipset Innex uses but it's not the same one as our FC Mobile II so I don't know their compatibility or battery life.

I will definitely order a unit from our supplier and give it the whole bench test. It sounds like this unit might be perfect for our customers who would like a unique portable NES system.
Tofu, do you know if it will play the games we are having problems with? Battletoads, Pipe Dreams, Dragon Warrior I and Paperboy? If it works with those games I think I will start to use this as the main system in lieu of pushing real NES to our customers.
Thank you again!

For people having freezing issues, I was having freezing issues on a couple games. I tracked it down to a minor bit of play the carts have in the slot. Even though the carts fit tight into the connector the minor amount of play avalable meant I could consistantly get games like SMB2 to lock up by pulling toward myself with my index finger with light pressure. Or if you had the cart in and tilted the unit a bit it would flop around enough to freeze some games. Must make it loose connection with one or more pins I suppose.
I put a couple thin strips of gaffer tape on the inside of the cart slot to tighten it up and I haven't had any problems since. Overall I love the system, I play FF1 everywhere now.

Mine is still working awesome. Such a great little system. I now wait for the Genesis portable and maybe someday, Super Nintendo portable.

So does Hyperkin make these for Think Geek or do they both get them from some mysterious third party? I don't follow the clone market as much as some, but it sure looks like an FC Mobile II without the logo.

Those are "made" by Innex. They are just a rip off of the FC Mobile 2 that Hyperkin designed. This is why I have never and will never carry them. Sick of these companies just ripping off others instead of making their own products. This is why the clone market has stagnated so much.

i bet the same factory is selling them on the side, just unbranded. and i guess with a different NOAC for one reason or another (cost probably) .. i wouldnt think its a prominent enough product for another chinese manufacturer to directly copy it like that, especially since its only sold in the US.

I hate it when these clone companies mercilessly rip off other clone companies' hard work. Also, people who have bought the FC Mobile II, be careful with the battery compartment. If you remove the screw and want the battery cover to stay on, dont try and bend the compartment tab AT ALL.
It snapped on mine :P

Most likely. Most of these famiclones come from the exact same factory anyways. I don't know for sure (since I haven't used a Retro Mini X), but I do believe it comes with an inferior NOAC. If you want an FC Mobile 2, then buy the FC Mobile 2.
The funny thing is these knockoffs aren't any cheaper (wholesale) than the FCM2.

StoneAgeGamer: Hy-jacking the thread but is the Retro Duo in your store the v.2? The picture looks like it is, and if it is that's a tempting price for me.

I prefer my portable NES games emulated on the Dingoo A320.

I wanted to carry those, but the company that makes them would only sell them to me if I ordered a ridiculous amount and I haven't found a wholesaler that carries them.

I wonder how well it works for general system emulation.

Pretty damn good if you ask me. Emulates pretty much all of the older systems and now with Linux there's a lot of software being ported.

There was this one guy at NAVA that had one of them. It looks cool. Me wants.
Anyways, is it just me or do the wireless controllers on the FC Mobile II suck? I played Punch-out with it last night and it seems like the controller has to be facing the bottom of the unit for it to work, and even then it doesn't register right. I press Up to do an uppercut and for some reason, he goes to the left or right sometimes. Also, the zapper seems to work when it wants to and you HAVE to have the light off when using it or else it'll do this weird thing where the square is on the duck and you hear the shot, but it doesn't register like you hit it.
Yet, for Punch-Out, if I play it with just the unit, it's fine.

They use an IR sensor on the bottom of the FC Mobile Unit, so you have to have direct line of sight from controller to bottom. They are pretty shoddy controllers anyway but I mostly consider them a freebie, and they worked well enough when I was back home in hobo dial up land so I just jacked into a TV and played Final Fantasy. I wouldn't trust them for anything that requires precision timing.

Since I have been messing around with my Mobile, I thought I'd toss up some of my compatibility findings. Its Famicom stuff, so nothing most have to worry about :)
Konami's VRC6: Does not work. Game tested: Madara (Freezes after starting new/saved game)
Konami's VRC7: Does not work. Game tested: Lagrange Point (Blank screen)
Namco NAMCO106: Works perfectly. No issues. Game tested: Megami Tensei II
MMC5A (Japan): Finicky. Works when it chooses, otherwise it tries to start and the Mobile says "Whoa, I was with you up until that point!". Game Tested: Just Breed
