I picked up a Sega Genesis Game Genie recently. I've tried it on a Genesis model 2 and a clone system and it has the same problem on either: it locks up on the boot screen, with the image shifted upwards. Is this a known problem, and is there anything I can do about it?

Step 1 is to clean the cartridge. Use a lot of cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner until its not dirty anymore. Opening up the cartridge helps with this.
Haven't had a genny game genie myself but if its anything like the NES', the screws are behind the label. After opening it up for cleaning, see if there's anything wrong with the board.
