Help getting Diablo II to run! (video error)

I keep getting this error when I try to run Diablo II LOD:

I have a clean install of XP Pro (legit copy) with all the updates and newest video drivers.

System specs:

Core2Duo T5750 2GHz
2gb Crucial DDR2-800
Onboard Intel 965 video (x3100 PCI-e) with 384mb

Obviously the system can run it but the video chipset isn't supported I guess. Any way around this?

EDIT: Sigh. Seems the x3100 chipset doesn't support 256 colors. I guess most Intel-based Macs use this chipset as that's the only info I can find really. Doesn't look like there's a PC patch either. Found a Mac one, but obviously that won't help me.

Or try putting Windows 98 on a DOSBox and running within :D

You realize you can play Diablo 2 on OS X, correct? Also, there is an unofficial patch somewhere on the internet to work with the GMA X3100. I use it and it works pretty well. Because it is unofficial though you cannot play on BattleNet. I found it via Google and hopefully you can too. If not I'll send it to you after you install it on OS X.

You realize you can play Diablo 2 on OS X, correct? Also, there is an unofficial patch somewhere on the internet to work with the GMA X3100. I use it and it works pretty well. Because it is unofficial though you cannot play on BattleNet. I found it via Google and hopefully you can too. If not I'll send it to you after you install it on OS X.

I checked that link and none of those fixes work. I guess it's a known issue with this video chipset.

How so?

Right click on the program, click on properties, then choose compatibility. One of those should help you out.
