Today Rockstar announced their second (http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/210443/rockstar-announces-gta-iv-the-ballad-of-gay-tony-expansion/) Xbox 360 exclusive expansion will be subtitled "The Ballad of Gay Tony". Don't ask me why, it just is. Actually, it's because your assistant in the game is named Tony.

While some people might balk at the title, I think it's yet another brilliant move by Rockstar. I can just see all the Fox News reports about the title now. Nevermind the fact that Rockstar isn't even using it(the title) in a controversal way. But unfortunatly thats most likely how the media will portray it. But Rockstar doesn't care because controversy=sales.....atleast for them.

It releases this fall for $19.99(1600 Microsoft points). Rockstar will also be releasing a compilation entitled "Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City" that includes both 360 expansion episodes on one disc. The compilation will be priced at $39.99 and does not require owning GTA IV to play it. And before anyone ask, this compilation is still a 360 exclusive.

Its an edgy move, but I think it might be a little too edgy for its own good.

Unfortunately, most of the target audience for Grand Theft Auto (urban male teenagers and young adults) tend to be pretty homophobic. I can't see this title going over very well at all with them.

And on the other side of the coin, depending upon its presentation, the game could also be very offensive to gay people. I could see the mainstream media presenting it as a gay-bashing sim, just like they implied previous GTA games were just about taking drugs and killing hookers.

so much for gamefork's 'blood and a four-leaf clover' prediction.

i'll wait for the disc. gamestop will have a fuckton of them a month after release for less than $40.

I thought that the idea was that you were Gay Tony's assistant, not the other way around. I wonder if there will be a GTA IV GOTY release after this with both exclusive DLCs.

Right now I've really no impulse to buy either, since I found GTA IV terribly boring for some reason and gave up on it quickly.

I didn't play tLatD that much upon release but have been tempted to dip into it from time to time, and this new expansion... meh. I'll pick it up, but I dunno if I'll give it the attention it warrants.

I too was hoping for a McCreary expansion pack...

This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read at DP.

Hey it's valid - there's a lot of homophobia out there still. I doubt it'll really hit sales that hard though - people will still want more GTA4.

I vaguely remember chasing down a rather flaming guy's exes or something during the game, but can't remember details. Was he named Tony? I finished GTA4 around release day and haven't gone back since.

Rockstar needs money!

That was Bernie Crane. "Gay" Tony is the guy who owns the nightclubs in Algonquin. Two different people.

... You haven't been here long, have you. :)

I'm actually wondering how Microsoft will react, considering that they don't even allow the use of any sort of sexual words in profiles or usernames.

I'm pretty sure that Willie Nelson has an unreleased album titled The Ballad of Gay Tony. It's a concept album about a gay guy named Tony. The lyrical content is mostly gay. An so is the music.

Since Rockstar is releasing both DLC in disc form, means that it's highly unlikely they are going to have a third set of download content. This will come to the PS3 sometime later, almost guaranteed. So I don't mind not having a 360 any longer. All the games I have that I can play. I can wait.

I'm pretty sure atleast 50% of the people here can wait if they didn't have the system that it happened to be released on and it would almost surely port over.

How is a true statement ridiculous? Do you live in a very liberal college town or "the real world"?

Just read the comments on the average Chris Crocker video on YouTube or even play on Xbox Live to see the homophobia (and racism) that's sadly still very prevalent in today's society.

Liberal college town. Check. Of course it says so right in my profile.

What made the statement ridiculous is saying "most" of the target audience are homophobes. You simply have no evidence (other than anecdotal) that this is the case. If you're going to make a statement that presumes to know what "most" people are thinking, at least have something to back it up. This is the internet however and people are not held to such standards.

Not a big deal to me either way. Just keeping it real as the kids say.

There's a difference between gays like Chris Crocker and most other gays. Gays like Chris Crocker make most people just want to choke a bitch. Then, from assumption only, there are gays that while most of them being obviously homosexual, keep to themselves.

Again this is assumption only. The only people that I've known are gay are a couple people at my work(out of about 100) and the person you can just tell is a homo when hanging out at places.

Lesbians aren't as bad, because either they're ugly and you wouldn't want them to hit on you, or there is the chance they're bi and look hot.

Its too bad a nice word has been adopted by this group of individuals. 20 years from now when someone watches a movie,tv show, or song from the 1960s or earlier and hear the word gay, they're going to be really confused...

I don't care what they look like. Lesbians are awesome.

Not necessarily. Bethesda is releasing a 3 pack of DLC as a disc later on this year, but they've still got two more DLC planned after that. Rockstar could just be releasing them in twos.

Anyway, it's kind of lame that just because this thing has the word "gay" in the title it is automatically considered controversial.

Except for Rosie O'Donnell. She's pretty annoying.

You can blame the media for that one. But controversial or not, the game is still going to sell well.
