Hi,
A kid in my school is selling a Xbox 360 with the 20 GB HD and 1 wireless controller, and cables. He said he will sell it under $200.00.
I am wondering if this is a Good Deal or would should I buy it from Gamestop?
Also this would be my 1st 360, what should I look out for (errors, problems, etc) I already know about RROD anything else.
Thanks Alot, :) :) :) :)

Manf date?
HMDI?
Which model console?
Make sure the warranty sticker is still attached.

I will ask him & check I really don't care about HDMI since I dont have a HDTV.
Thanks for the FAST response.

$200 is high, these have dropped to $150 or less recently. If it's in good shape $175 wouldn't be horrible.
The main thing to check would be the warranty sticker. Remove the faceplate and make sure the sticker is still there and hasn't been broken.
The manufacture date is good to know, but you can also check the wattage of the power supply. 203W means it's a first or second gen board, while 170 is a Falcon. 150W is the newest, the Jasper.

If it's a Jasper and he offers it to you at a reasonble price($150 or lower) go for it. Heres how to tell if it's a Japser or not from another thread I posted in:
Lot Number(on box next to upc code): Jaspers are 0844 or higher but there are some 0843 Jaspers too
Build Date(above the serial number on the console): Jaspers are from November 2008 and later. However, their test model had a build date of 10/14(October 2008). On the motherboard it's labeled "Jasper 1 weeks run" so it was most likely an early test batch.
Power Brick: Heres where we will have some discrepencies. Their initial indication was: 203W=Xenon, 175W=Falcon, 150W=Jasper. While having 150W is a pretty safe bet that you have a Jasper, you could also have one at 175W(like I do). Their guess was that Microsoft had left over power bricks from the Falcon chip models and decided to incorporate them into the earliest batches of Jasper models.
Number Designation: On the back of your console above the words "made in China" will be either 16,5A(Xenon), 14,2A(Falcon) or 12,1A(Jasper).

Quicky question, would it be bad to buy it if its a 203W??

Eh, if he goes low then it's maybe worth it. I got a practically new Arcade 360 for $110. You can get a 20gb hd for $20-30 at most.
Also, get one with the HDMI port even if you don't have HDMI yet. It will be nice later on if you get a new tv.

Another quicky... What would be fair price to offer him?

That would most likely mean it's a launch model and I would avoid it at all cost just to be on the safe side.

I'd say it's too high. At my store we price one with 20gb hard drives for $179.99, I mean really, if you're paying that much DO make sure it has HDMI, even if you don't care now you might someday, some games aren't all that playable in SD (like Lost Odyssey).
You can do a lot better for that price, essentially it sounds like he wants to sell one but doesn't want to get canned by selling it used somewhere. So he's going to find a chump to pass it on to, for a price.
Oh and I would avoid the 203w.
