Yes, that's what they're called. Demo Demo PlayStation was apparently a line of demo discs released during the first few years of the system's life in Japan. It was a bit like the Play Play series, which I've already collected.
It's hard to find details on Demo Demo PlayStation releases, aside from this page (http://www.pekori.jp/~emonoya/goods/nfs/demo.html), and I don't even see any in Yahoo Japan auctions. Does anyone have any of these discs or just some background information on them?

At one time I thought I had more of these but when I looked in my Japanese import PS1 cd holder I could only find one dated "1994-12" vol. 1. It's a typical demo disc like you said, featuring both demos and trailers of upcoming or recently released games. I think I have more of these demos in another cd holder so I'll have to go check.
Do you remember if these were from a magazine(several of my Japanese import demos are from various magazines like Playstation Wave) or stand alone demos?

This Japanese Wikipedia entry (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%97%E3%83%AC%E3%82%A4%E3%82%B9%E3%83%86%E3%8 3%BC%E3%82%B7%E3%83%A7%E3%83%B3%E3%83%BB%E3%82%AF% E3%83%A9%E3%83%96) suggests that Demo Demo PlayStation discs were made for retail, either to be played in stores or sold over the counter. Both the Demo Demo PlayStation line and Play Play were connected to the PlayStation Club, which was similar to that PlayStation Underground service that Sony ran in the U.S. Play Play volumes were mailed to club members, so the same might have been done with Demo Demo PlayStation discs. I don't think there was any print magazine to go with them.
It'd be great if you could check your collection. Any idea what's on that first volume?

The Main Menu has four icons you can click on(Demo, Movies, Demonstration, PS logo) and below is what each offers
Demo
-9 demos(Crime Crackers, Victory Zone, A.I.V., Ridge Racer, Hamlet, Motor Toon and a few others I can't read)
Movies
-13 non-interactive trailers(Myst, Rayman, Parodius Deluxe Pack, Battle Arena Toshinden, Tama, Cosmic Race, a mahjong game and some others I can't read)
Demonstration
-three interactive demostrations you can play around with
PS Logo
-a long list of new titles coming out soon
-Playsation news(a screen that has the PS price with other text)
Hope that helps. I'll see if I can dig up anymore of the demo demo disc.

Thanks for the list! Based on the 12-94 date, that volume of Demo Demo PlayStation might've been the first PlayStation demo disc ever. It sounds like something intended to be sold or given away to the public; the tech demos portion reminds me of the manta ray and dinosaur from the first North American PlayStation demo disc.

You are correct about the dinosaur and manta ray part of the tech demos. Perhaps this was Japan's version of the black label US Developer Disc. I know I got it from ebay several years ago but I have no idea from who.

Thats the disc. I apologize for the shiny/blurry bits. If I find anymore I'll take some more pics for you.
