I just won a sega genesis game from Canada. The seller has stated that it is no cheaper than $8.00 to send the game to the US via airmail. He stated that although I can send him a game for less than $4.00, it is double that to send it to the states. Is this the truth or is he just blowing smoke? Anyone from Canada want to chime in on this one? Any specific rates would help, and the game weighs about 5 oz. Thanks, John

I wouldn't doubt that it will be more expensive. I had a package to ship to someone in Canada, but happened to be heading up there to visit relatives. Decided to ship it while I was in Canada- lo and behold it was four dollars more than if I would have sent it from the USA, plus it took longer to get there.

Canada Post is pretty bad. I got another one:

Father had my uncle in Quebec send him three cans of specialty brand potted meat, the cans were $1 and weighed 5 oz. each, it cost $13 USD to ship them to the US in a bubble mailer.

Yup, Canada Post's rates are ridiculous. With swlovinist's first post, if the games doesn't fit thru the plastic slot thing they have at the post office, you're forced to pay $10+ to mail Genesis or other boxed games sometimes.

Semi-reasoning: Unlike the USPS - Canada Post is a private company. It's not socialized like it is in the States. Private company, private problems - including stupid rates.

Actually, Canada Post is owned by the government.

However, if you think the rates to ship to the US are rediculous, it is sometimes even more expensive to ship within Canada. I shiped a single snes cart from Victoria to my parents' place in Manitoba, and it cost $8.

Gov't owned, but union run and always threat of strikes so they give in and give them pay raises despite whatever happens in the rest of the world.
They then pass that cost onto the consumer with yearly rate increases.

Try shipping anything to the USA with tracking (as required by PayPal) and it starts at about 15 bucks. Small packets are cheaper but you lose if buyer ever files for item not received, even if they received it as it has no tracking == scammer's heaven.
