(originally a Weekend Project (http://whipassgaming.com/weekendindex.html) and can be viewed directly here (http://whipassgaming.com/Weekend%20Projects/genesisstorage.htm), or at the end of this post)

'ello all,

A bit of a forward...
(if you're not interested in nearly putting yourself to sleep with the following, the gist of it is that I am looking for some very specific storage drawers for my Genesis collection and could use some help)
Years and years and years ago, when I only had around 30 or 40 Genesis games(as hard as that is to believe (http://whipassgaming.com/genesis.html)), I came across these hip Genesis storage units at Wal-Mart. Costing around $20, these slick pieces of cart storage held a respectable 36 games...*along with their manuals*! Again, only owning around 30 to 40 carts at the time I bought just two of these awesome units.

Flash forward more years than I care to remember and I now currently own 368 Genesis carts...and still just the two units. I had about given up on ever finding anymore of these things when a buddy of mine (http://s4.zetaboards.com/Whip_Ass_Gaming/profile/72053/) alerted me that he had seen a guy selling one on a forum somewhere...and then another buddy (http://whipassgaming.com/rga/rgaindex.htm) managed to come up with one in a lot of gaming hardware he had purchased off Craig's List.

This put me up to three units and a decent 108 slots of cart storage. Doing some quick math, or making Moffsoft FreeCalc (http://www.moffsoft.com/freecalc.htm) do some quick math, I found that I would need just eleven of these units to cover my entire collection(and I already have three, so now all I need are eight more)! This is actually possible, I could really make this happen if I just had a few more sets of eyes helping me out in the field.

With that said, to anyone who'd be willing to just keep it in the back of their mind, to anyone who'd be willing to shoot me a quick message letting me know they've come across one either in the field or on the net, to anyone who may have one(or a few) and are looking to sell them, to anyone who'd be willing to help with this dream of mine...I'd appreciate it to no end. BTW, yes, I am aware of how very pathetic it is that I consider quality Genesis cart storage to be an actual dream...;)

Ok, the details you'll need:
* These storage units were made by a company called "A.L.S. Industries", apparently located in Torrence, CA 90504.
* The drawers all have the classic gray pin stripes that early Genesis game cases (http://www.mobygames.com/game/genesis/altered-beast/cover-art/gameCoverId,74947/) showed, as well as the official Sega Genesis logo on them.
* Despite being branded by a company in California, these units all have stickers on the bottom stating they were made in Indonesia.
* The drawers will hold exactly 36 carts and will have two slots for manuals. All drawers will have the "A.L.S." logo towards the two slots used for storing manuals.
* The housing of the actual unit will be black and have a wood-like texture on it(it's just particleboard though).
* They are supposed to come with six rubber "legs", but I think it'll be extremely unlikely that any of these units will still have them attached(as they fall out easily). Don't worry about the legs, I can live without them.

All I really ask is that the units are in relatively good shape and contain the drawer that exhibits the gray Genesis pin striping with the official Sega logo present. I can apply some touch-up paint on them, I can glue them back together, I can clean them up and I can find replacement rubber legs for them. If you happen across one of these please don't hesitate to contact me! You can catch me via a Private Message here on the forum, on AOL Instant Messenger, through my private email located on my site(in my sig) or by just simply replying to this post. I am willing to buy them, trade for them, pay for shipping on them, whatever it takes!

Some pics... (http://whipassgaming.com/Weekend%20Projects/genesisstorage.htm)

Any help with this would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Bel

With the help of this post I've managed to come up with another one! If anyone else happens across one, please let me know! :)

Thanks!

I think that same company may have made n64 cases. At least mine looks the same except for the system logo. Th n64 case also only hold 24 carts instead of 36 (because n64 carts are wider), but they have these plastic notches so genesis carts fit perfectly too. I think they're also pretty common because in addition to the one I own I've seen at least 2 other cases at goodwill.

Yeah, they made NES, Genesis, SNES and even N64 cases(as far as I know). I often times see the NES cases when I'm out and about, have owned two of the SNES cases and ran across the N64 cases when I pumped up my campaign to get more Genesis units. If you make it back to the Goodwill and notice any of the Genesis units, let me know! :)

I don't think I've seen Genesis, but I'll keep an eye out.

I managed to come across the N64 storage unit the other day. Was over at a local thrift shop, saw it out of the corner of my eye and about had a heart attack as I had originally thought it was the Genesis version. I wasn't going to get it, but then my buddy reminded me that I actually have a few N64 carts. ;)

For those interested, it's a lot like the Genesis/SNES units, but is about two inches thinner and only holds 24 carts. Oddly enough, it looks like it will hold SNES carts as well...but I don't know have one to test that theory with.

Well, thanks to these forums I've come up with another unit! That makes 6, in total: Halfway to what I need to house all of my Sega carts! Thanks so much to all those who have helped me out, and all those who continue to help out by keeping their eyes open for these units!

I made a video of the units, just to sort of show off what I have now and thank everyone who has helped me out(and continues to do so):

Sorry about the shaky camera work...was using my girlfriend's HD camera/camcorder, which doesn't have compensation for that(forget what it's called). Anyway, it gets the job done in that you can see what the units are all about...and get a bit of kitty on the side. ;)

Just the quick, monthly post to let people know I am still looking for these units. I am up to six right now, so I only need another six to cover all 420 of my Sega carts. It's coming along nicely, and I wanted to say "THANKS!" to everyone who has been helping me out!

Again, if anyone happens across one, or has one they like to get rid of just let me know! :)

I remember seeing the N64 12-game and 24-game cases like this at Target back in the day. I always wanted one, but they were too expensive (I was a poor college student back then). Now I'd kill for one (or ten).

Well, tell you what, next time I see any of these storage units for systems that I don't own(SNES), or systems I don't own that many games for(N64) I'll still go ahead and pick them up. This way I can try to contribute...and help others out who may be looking for quality storage for their carts as well. :)

Just the quick, kinda-monthly refresh on my request for the units, as well as thanking everyone who has helped out thus far. :)

I've managed to come up with seven of these units so far, and only need about five more to cover all of my Sega carts. For more info, please view the first post in the thread here(links with pics and further info, etc).

As always, if anyone has one they'd like to unload, please feel free to contact me via these forums, my personal email(on my site) or via AOL Instant Messenger(same username). I can offer up cash or items for trade(comics, games and just about everything else in between)...

Thanks again to everyone reading, everyone who has helped me and the administrators of this forum for allowing me to post and refresh this "wanted" ad. :)

A quick update, plus another reminder:

I now have nine of these units, only three more to go!!!

As always, if anyone has one they'd like to get rid of just shoot me a Private Message, an email or catch me on AOL Instant Messenger(all available in the first post of this thread)!

Again, my thanks go out to everyone who has helped me out, as well as to the moderators of this forum for allowing me to post(and update) these messages. I really appreciate it!

So very close...I am giddy! ;)

Bel

PS: Runt wanted to me to post a pic of himself the latest unit. He's a bad cat!

I own 2 of these units, the PSX and N64 version. The PSX one is half the width of the N64 drawer. I use it to store my "ZOMG RAREZ & WORTHZ 2K MONIES" PS1 games since it stores something like 12 jewel cases :P. They're actually very good quality storage units.

Hey, I'll keep an eye out for the Genesis drawer. I haven't seen a Genesis one before but you never know.

I used to have a few of the SNES storage drawers, but sold them off with my SNES collection(to get a Saturn); they were really nice(as are the Genesis units). I currently have one N64 unit...holds 24 carts...I only own 12, so it's working out. ;)

I've not ever seen the PSX unit, but it sounds interesting. You ought to post some pics of it at some point, I'm sure everyone would be thrilled to take a look.

I appreciate you keeping an eye out for me...I'm so close I can hardly stand it!

Well, I'm almost there: I now have *10* of these units! I want to thank everyone for helping me get this far: The users on this forum and the mods for letting me post the ads; ya'll are the reason I have made it this far!

Still looking to get two more, to cover the rest of my Genesis carts and then all of my SMS and 32X carts as well. As always, if anyone has one they'd like to sell, or anyone happens to see one out in the wild, just let me know(via email, private message, instant message, etc)!

Thanks again everyone,

Bel
