Wow. SOTN is the most expensive @ $10. I guess FF7 would set the new record. Still, it's worth $15 to be able to play this on my PSP (legally).

The new motion control stuff is very nice!
I am pretty excited about the FF XIV MMO, that should be very fun!
God of War 3 has alot of gore and the Harpies had boobs LOL
Gran Turismo 5 Looks more real than ever!
I for one am very happy that they will continue to release all new PSP games on UMD for us!
The new PSP Movie download service will rock too, great for those of us on the go all the time!
Sony did a great job this year imo.

I just watched the show although I missed the first hour of it(I'll rewatch it once reruns start airing later). For the hour plus I watched I thought that Anton was the most entertaining part of the showLOL Also, someone needs to tell Jack Tretton that its ok to smile once in a while.
All in all they had an ok show but nothing really blew my mind. Furthermore, no new version of Syphon Filter for the PS3? Wtf?? I'm very interested to see how Agent turns out because Rockstar always makes intrigueing properties. I'm also wondering how FFXIV will launch so soon after FFXIII. But it's another exclusive game for Sony and that actually helped their presentation imo.

So basically, lots of shiny looking PS3 games...none of which are coming out this year.
They are now calling sex toys "Motion Controllers"
and the PSP Go is way too much.

Ive been following mag for a while now. The choking point for large scale multiplayer games on consoles has always been the hardware, earlier MFPS's such as battlefield 1942 and Vietname had their problems with bandwith, but the data wasnt organized, since then that has been fixed.
I for one will be picking this up and enjoying it very much.

They just need to can the PSPGo right now. $250? I would only buy one for $100, and that's pushing it.
It's ugly, looks almost non-functional, and can't play 99% of the library. Oh sure, Sony might offer most old games for download, but fat chance they'll be anywhere near the used prices you can snag them for now.
Worst business decision ever.

Now that we've gotten past the technical limitation, I would honestly like to see large numbers of people have the ability to wrap their heads around the concept. Organizing and managing a team that large is a feat in itself, doing it with live people in a high-pressure environment is daunting to say the least. A team that large with no defined leader(s) might as well raise the white flag.
Really, I want to see this work. I think the concept is fascinating.

I don't understand this company. I wish I did. Why are there hardly any exclusives this Holiday 2009? Why is the PSP Go so much money? Why invest in more motion controllers when other competitors already have the market? Why keep pouring in dollars into HOME? Why not announce the PS3 Slim? Why does the PS3 STILL cost so damn much? Why are you still selling more PS2s than PS3s?

As far as potentially good games shown, Sony showed the most. The motion stick seems more useful than Natal but will it actually ever come out? And it does seem strange that the PSP Go is $250.
Maybe they'll drop the price of the PS3 the last day or a few days after E3? Please...

Because they are still recovering from a slower than expected start at the beginning of this console cycle which means developers didn't really focus as many resources on the PS3 two years ago which resulted in fewer triple-A games this holiday. It looks like they may actually catch up and possibly surpass the 360 in 2010/2011 assuming the titles they showed actually ship and are as good as they are hyped to be.
The PSP Go is aimed at the iPod/iPhone/Zune crowd. It's small and very sophisticated and while I think it will sell better once it hits $200 or even $150, it's really not out of line with the pricing on those other devices.
Both Microsoft and Sony have recognized that Nintendo has pretty much rested it's future on casual/motion controlled gaming and ditched most of its focus on games for more advanced gamers. If you can give people an inexpensive and better alternative on the PS3 and 360, therefore making the PS3 and 360 systems that meet the needs of the entire family, there is little or no reason for people to own a Wii.
I don't have an answer for the rest of your questions.

I. Don't. Get. You. Sony.
Sony has either fired or lost most of their talented employees, the company has lost their ability to innovate. The company has lost any ability to judge what will be successful in the marketplace.
During a global recession, they're going to release a portable system that's $120 more expensive then their competitor's option, and the *only* selling point is that it's smaller? They still expect a product to sell because it has the word "Playstation" on the box, they're not giving consumers a reason to *want* the device. They're failing at Marketing 101. Explain to me why i should buy a PSP Go when i can buy an iPhone for $50 less? The answer is the contract, of course... but the consumer doesn't care about the contract, they only care about the price out the door.
Through lax security, they've let their customer base know that the PS3 Slim is coming. They've obsoleted every PS3 on the shelf, take a wild guess what that's going to their sales figures. Instead of using the leak to advance their product, they're trying to keep everyone in the dark about it. They need to come out and admit that the new console is coming, tell the consumers that it's going to be the same price and have the features, and just basically perform some basic damage control.
But no, they're going to sit here and flounder until TGS? Great strategy...

FAIL.
The DSi costs the same amount as the PSP? FAIL. The DS still costs more than the PS2? FAIL. I'm just kidding as I do like the DS, but that's pretty much how that quote sounds.
Seeing as the PSP Go removed the disc drive I actually assumed it would be $199.99. I wouldn't have bought it, but at a $199.99 price tag, yeah it'd definitely be worth it for the consumer. Now, the fact that Sony could have just marketed it as downloadable PSP games as well as adding a touch screen since they are going after the iPhone with this device and allow some games solely for the PSP Go would have made the system alot better. Sure it may have had Nintendo fanboys crying out how Sony copies everything, but everyone copies everything. Sony fucked up by not adding a touch screen and just reinvisioning the exact same system once again. It's not a bad thing that it's the same system, but Sony is a bunch of fucking retards when it comes to marketing strategy.
I'll say one thing though. Atleast 2009 was their best year and we didn't see another 2006. Riiiiiiiiidge Raaacer!!!! They failed in 2006 on so many different levels it's not even funny.

Wait, how is the current PS3 going to be obsolete when the PS3 slim arrives? What did I miss? If it's just going to be smaller and cheaper, so what? Is there any solid info about the slim out there, that I can read? After reading the slim PS3 thread here, all I saw were a bunch of grainy pictures.

That's exactly my point, nobody knows. So would you drop $400 on a PS3 right now knowing that sony is going to release *something* new in the next few months?
Sony is killing their own short term sales because of the uncertainty. Why would you buy a PS3 this week when you can just wait to find out exactly what the slim is going to be?

It's not the best comparison, and this wasn't the worst E3 they had ever done, but If I had to grade Sony, they get a D-. Too many industry expectations were let down.
Positives - Gran Turismo PSP comes out (FINALLY!) and That neato race car game by Little Big Planet people.
Negatives - No strong Holiday line up of exclusives. Major titles that SHOULD have come out this year (or last year),still aren't. Too much emphasis on Home. PSP Go costs too much, and isn't a value at all. PS3 still costs too much, and there was no mention of the redesign. We KNOW it exists, and no smart consumer will buy a PS3 until you announce it, most likely with a price drop.
But considering Sony's current strategy, I'd say they put out the PS3 slim, strip functionality from it, and charge $70 more....

MGS: Peace Walker looks promising. I guess it's OK to distract us with more backstory to the series for a while. Are they all Big Boss and how many are there? A whole army? My goodness, that's a lot of test tubes. Origins of Outer Heaven... Sounds like a good time to me.

Indeed. Considering the whole PS2 compatibility on the slimline is still up it the air, Sony are shooting themselves in the foot by being secretive. It's nearly 4 months to the TGS and that's potentially a lot of lost PS3 sales.
It's an awkward position for the company to be in, but now they've been rumbled they should at least give an official announcement and confirm the specs of the machine.
As for the PSPgo, I'm starting to like the design now I've seen better pictures. But at those prices they are having a bit of a laugh. If the system had built in camera and GPS for that price then it would be more acceptable. But currently it's £50 too much.

Sony's show was fantastic. You guys are being very pessimistic.
The PSP Go's price is good...higher than I like but where it should be as was mentioned.
The PS3 slim will likely be inferior to the current PS3's because of cost reductions so who cares, get one today.
The games slipping to 2010 sucks, yet Nintendo was worse.
I'm not excited about Home yet but at least they are working on it.
The motion controller was absolutely awesome, 1:1, perfect. If they can add voice recognition...

Okay what the hell are you smoking, because I want some of it! Let's do this!
-$250
-No UMD drive
-Incompatible with 90% of the PSP library (UMDs)
-Smaller Screen
-No Touch Screen
-No 2nd Analog
-16GB Internal Memory
If they hit $200 it MIGHT have been acceptable. But considering what it is, it's grossly overpriced, and is only going to sell to hardcore fans. No one in their right mind would choose this over the current PSP, an Iphone or even an Ipod Touch.
There is a reason they are marketing this along the current PSP, because they are afraid it won't sell. Which it won't. Not well at least. Retailers aren't going to be too happy with it, because they can't sell any add on items like software with it, so it won't get much retail space.
This thing is destined to fail.

You are in the minority. There is no way this thing will increase sales in any capacity. It is a downgrade from the PSP.
What, you think the original PSP won't be able to download games as well? I'm sure they'll put the PSN store on there (and if not, they are both retarded and just plain cocksuckers). This device is $80 more than the current PSP. That's a lot normally, but given economic conditions, that's WAY too much. This is the second most expensive system on the market behind Sony's own PS3.
The PS3 already taught us that consumers don't want OMG WTFZ IT DOES EVERYTHING FOR $MUCH CASH. Why would they do this again? There's no target demographic for this device. The PSP is a shitty MP3 player, a shitty web browser, and doesn't have the App store to compete with Apple's iPod. The XMB sucks in comparison to Apple's interface (which, I believe, is their closest "non-gaming" competitor with this device). It's a nice video player and a nice games machine, but with controls like that, they can kiss my dollars goodbye. They basically ignored all the complaints about the original PSP (handcramps while using that god-awful nub, anyone?) and somehow made it worse.
Consider this. I'm a huge fan of downloadable games. I will not buy this thing. I want the option to buy it on disc-based media because I like to resell and I like to buy used (on occasion). I own 40+ games on the Live Arcade. I will never buy this device. I will never buy $60 games on download until it is the only way to do so. I will never buy $40 games either, which is what this device is trying to get me to do. I used to buy a ton of games on the Live Arcade in its first couple years, but I've bought maybe 6 over the past 1 year. Why? Because there were so many purchases I regretted, and the inability to resell a game just kills most of the value, especially when you play the full game and realize its a turd. And these are $10 games here; how hesitant would I be to buy a $40 game on PSN? Never gonna happen. Even AAA, A+ titles like Fallout 3 or Oblivion that I invest a ton of time into I'll sell once I beat.
The fact that a lot of people don't have broadband and a ton more don't have GOOD broadband means that this device is doomed to failure. I have Comcast internet in Philadelphia, supposedly fast -- it sucks. Often I'll get speeds of 100 kbps. This is not acceptable for downloadable games -- it would take 2+ hours to download a three or four hundred megabyte title. There's a Gamestop 10 minutes -- walking -- from my house. No way I'll wait that long if what I want is instant gratification.
Combine that with the fact that, if I want a load of games on my PSP, I can simply download them for free and put them on a MSDuo, and this device has absolutely zero value. I don't pirate, but many people with PSPs do.
I really like the PSP, but if I buy another one I'll buy the 2000 series. PSPGo can go off to die with the Atari Lynx and game.com.

Ok then i'm in the minority. I guess alot of people are going to be pissed cause they have bought UMD's and Sony is pretty much dropping them, but truth is I never liked UMD's. They are loud, take long to load and are cumbersome.
The loading speeds will see a significant increase and the system offers bluetooth which is a tad bit better than plugging in a wired set and fits better into the overall connectivity scheme.
Also when I said it will help them get better sales it's cause UMD sales have been piss poor. This way Sony can make more money off their games and we can get more games, basic logic. UMD was on the way out cause people just weren't buying the damn things...fact.
I admit they could have included a second analog though.
oh so the psp go has 16gig's of space...
after I download games I guess I better hope to god that nothing ever happens to the hard drive... fail...
$250?
guys this is insane... no price drop in the ps3, and the new psp is more money than a 360...

mag looked overwelming not in the 256 ppl online at once aspect, but in the micro management aspect of it all... i hope it lets you go play it like halo or cod and not just like a rainbow 6 type...

The motion stick seems more useful than Natal but will it actually ever come out?
Microsoft's project Natal seems far more innovative and has exponentionally more uses. Sony's "wand" is basically a Sony branded Wii motion controller with motion plus. Since the sixaxis failed to steal any of the Wii's thunder Sony is going the blatant copy route. They'll probably call it the Sony remote as well.
And costs more than a 360.
Epic fail.

Remember, a UMD holds 1.8 gb per disc. So the PSP GO can only hold 6-7 games. If you want to play something else, you're going to have to delete and download.
No bluetooth
no camera
no GPS
no UMD drive
limited space
smaller screen
not compatible with accessories on the market
Like i said before, i see why sony would love to sell these things for $250, but i've yet to see a reason why a consumer would want this over the sexy iPod, the cheaper DS, or the more versitile PSP 3000. What's in it for the consumer?

PSP is PSP. It's always been the same, and they're too bull-headed to change anything about it. Only thing I want to know if how we're going to get existing UMDs on the UMD-less system without having to re-buy in the form of a download.

I'm betting they are going to take a play from Nintendo's book and the official plan will be, "Re-buy 'em bitches!" :fist:

Why not announce the PS3 Slim? Why does the PS3 STILL cost so damn much? Why are you still selling more PS2s than PS3s?
I can attempt field these. The PS3 slim was likely not announced because they don't plan on releasing until the holidays. The current buzz about the price drop is that it will happen in the fall, likely to coincide with the release of the slim, because honestly if they said yesterday that they were going to drop the price this fall, no one would buy a PS3 until the drop. Lastly, the PS2 sells better because no only is it the cheapest console on the market, but new games release between 29.99 and 39.99 and with it's huge library of games there are literally hundreds of titles you can get for under $20, with a good number of those titles actually being quality games.

I'll see your Metal Gear Solid Rising and raise you Final Fantasy 14 (http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/210635/final-fantasy-xiv-may-come-to-the-xbox-360-as-well/). Still no confirmation but definitely something to keep in mind.
