In case anyone is interested there's an update for the downloadable PS3 game 'The Last Guy' that adds a bunch of trophies.
Unfortunately you have to delete your saved game and start over if you want to go for the trophies. Not the best solution for people who already played through the game. Also, none of the trophy goals are specified and only a few have been determined so far on trophy faq sites.

I'm not a big trophy guy, but I find the idea of non-retroactive trophies to be dumb. I guess for the more arcadey games where you're just going for score, it isn't that big of a deal. But for something like GTAIV, where you're putting in dozens of hours to complete the game, they're pretty much useless.

This is because Sony is trying to prevent people from using save states to unlock trophies. This is/was a problem on Xbox 360 because people would strip out the profile lock on a save, load up the save and be awarded achievements for doing nothing. It may also be caused by a versioning issue, though I'm not sure about that one.

Not to mention that the older version of the game would have no way of recording or tracking most goals you'd already completed. For instance, "Cross X checkpoint Y times"; why would the game keep track of that?
It's a design flaw, and it's not the programmers' fault. They just didn't really plan that far ahead.

I think Pixeljunk Monsters got it right for adding trophy support into an existing game. Just create a separate 'trophy room' with specific challenges. Other games should do the same.
In general, I think 'complete level x' trophies are lame anyway. The only interesting trophies are going for specific challenges. Pixeljunk Monsters had some good ideas in their trophy challenges, and it's the only game that I've bothered to get 100% trophies.

I'm in favor of this if only because I lost interest about halfway through The Last Guy (particularly the missions where the whole screen goes dark), and this is a minor catalyst in giving the game another shot.
