Don't forget, thinkgeek was recently selling "new" Dreamcasts that were actually used. Now that I think of it, I think only some of them were used, but still.

Here's the full story about that (http://www.destructoid.com/thinkgeek-issues-apology-responds-to-old-dreamcast-debacle-132790.phtml). It's believed that the "used" Dreamcasts that two customers got instead of new ones were returned merchandise.

Also, this should have been posted in Daily Deals and Discounts (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=40).

Man, I need to buy one of those. I've now bought six Dreamcasts used, from thrift stores and flea markets. Every single one of them were dead when I tried them out. The only working DC I have is my original, and I'd like to have a backup unit for when it gives up the ghost.

When do they get a new shipment of games? Somebody tell them to check the warehouse for some MVC2 and Project Justice shipments, maybe between the Ark of the Covenant and the E.T. cartridges.

It brings a smile to my face to see this sort of discovery. Not too long ago, a warehouse in an eastern country (India?) discovered a lost shipment of Virtual Boy stuff. A few shops in a small village sold them for cheap, and everyone loved them. Funny, over here people sell them for quite a bit, and everyone hates them. With freighter pirates and the like, who knows what gaming goodies are out there, waiting to be found again.

maybe Sega will rerelease the dreamcast?

I know its only wishful thinking. I believe at the time they decided to stop selling the dreamcast there was more unsold units than sold units... but maybe, just maybe, sega is coming back !

No. Sega as a console maker (in the ilk of Nintendo/Sega/MS) is done for good. Any new download set-top box isn't going to bring them back into the kewl kids club anytime soon.

This is all just old stock thats been found that is now making its way back out to the gaming public.

Also title edited and moved to the Deals and Discounts forum.

Ditto.

I've ended up with some "dead" Dreamcasts not only from thrift stores but also a pawn shop and I managed to get one from ChasetheChuckwagon.com which kicked the bucket after about 10 hours of gameplay.

Like you, I am nervous about only having my original Dreamcast to rely on and mine was a 2001 purchase which has gotten plenty of use.

Sorry I posted it in the Classic Gaming section since I now consider the Dreamcast a Classic (i.e. they don't make em anymore) rather than a Modern system. Next time they find another batch of new Dreamcasts, I'll know what to do :)

Hopefully this means they'll find some new games.

Dude, I have 2 dc's and they are still alive and kicking. One is actually a launch dc, which is amazing that a launch dc is still working just fine.

some games like pso won't run because of data so far out on the disc, but that is about it

I'm starting to wonder if the Dreamcast stuff works better if you use it right away. I just bought a "new" mouse and it's all jumpy. I'll probably just order that PS/2 adaptor and put the mouse away as a collectable.

Those of you who've had a DC fail, was it a launch model, or did you buy it later? I know that my launch unit (September 99) seems to work fine, and I just played PSO on Schtserv with it last night.
