I saw an entry for this game on www.allgame.com and was amazed to see that the Watara Supervision had even one RPG for it. I googled it and it seems to pop up on other sites like Wikipedia and Gamefaqs, but it doesn't show up here on digitpress.
Does anyone have any info on the game? I'm hoping to pick up a copy to see what it's like but I'm having no luck. Being the only Supervision RPG, it makes me curious how it works.
Could it be a cancelled game or is it just really rare or something?

I did some searching and did find a couple screenshots, which does suggest it at least existed in some form. Other than that I can find no official confirmation that it was ever released.

It exists. I own it.
Journey to the West is the only 512kb [!!] game for the Supervision. It includes a storyline, both in Chinese and very heavily bastardized English, and, like the other Supervision games, is extremely difficult (read: virtually unplayable).
I haven't played through nearly the entire game, only some of it, but from what I have played through it doesn't appear to have anything to do with S-RPG and rather, has only presented me with standard fare platforming levels. Maybe the later parts of the game are RPG-ish, or maybe the game's packaging (i.e. those "screenshots" DarthKur posted) lied. Either is possible; I've found that certain Supervision game packages explain features or levels that don't actually exist in the actual game.
At any rate I don't own the packaging/instruction card, only the game cartridge itself. Since the game requires connection of 4 IO lines inside the cartridge, it seems to play ONLY in the Magnum Supervision (most recent and most compact model) and is incompatible with the TV-Link.

I see, so I should probably just keep an eye out for it on ebay, although I don't usually see much Supervision stuff on there. Even online I have a pretty hard time when it comes to looking for games for it. Usually I only see games when the system is being sold with them.

Good luck with all that. :P
In eleven years of Supervision collecting, I have seen it for sale ONCE. And I bought it.

Hello, after many years of search I've got now a cartridge "Journey to the West" (I think it was the copy of Brandon Cobb that i found from the first person that bought his entire collection...) I took it and 2 other rare games ("Cave Wanders" and "Sonny X' Press", never seen in web and ebay).
Here's a little video I've done now about the screening of this rpg game (I confirm, it works ONLY by Magnum version of the consolle, not in the others and so I bought also a rare Magnum Supervision from an american friend of mine)

now I'm searching the 2 final difficulty avaiable games: DEVIL PARADISE (there's a photo in the poster of Magnum Supervision, so there's the proof it exist) and JADE LEGEND (never seen anywhere...)
news ?

Interesting, glad to see you were able to get a copy. From the video it doesn't really look like an RPG, though? Are there RPG elements that I just didn't see in the video or is it really not an RPG like Brandon Cobb suggested?

I don't know...it seems the only game working with Magnum supervision, and the other normal games don't work with it...there are different lines in the cartidrige...So I can think is 512k and rpg game...but not proof....
what about the game ? nice, yes :)

Wow, a SuperVision game that doesn't appear to be a blatant copy of a Game Boy game. :)

Oh I see. So the gameplay seems to be rather like a more bastardized Faxanadu/Zelda 2/Castlevania type of game. Probably the best that particular handheld could do with it. Too bad the video doesn't have sound and run longer. Maybe if a Supervision emulator actually eventually runs this game...

Yeah it does seem to resemble those games, but from one of the pictures posted earlier in the thread it also seems like it has some overhead/Zelda 1 style areas.
It looks like Monkey is fighting enemies in a castle/town type area and it doesn't appear to be side scrolling. Either way this game looks kind of cool. I have never played a Supervision and this title has certainly made me curious.

How many U.S. Supervision games are there?
Are they extremely hard to get CIB?

I'm pretty sure Supervision games came in those plastic blister packs that are destroyed when opening..., so either it's sealed or the person saves the backing/instructions or leaves it sealed. DP member tubeway has a thread about this.

I'm very nice to see that in few days many many people (about 2000) have seen my video JOURNEY TO THE WEST :)
I'll do a better video with music as I can. And if you want I can do also a video about two other rare supervision games I've got: CAVE WONDERS and SONNY X' PRESS (never seen)

Old thread, but I have to ask considering some of these games are impossible to find, and Journey to the West is only playable on the Magnum. Is it reasonable to say that some of these games were never released in the blister packaging?
