Okay, so my old and reliable Sega CD model 1 that I've had since the early/mid 90's is now giving me problems. :(

I hooked the Genny 1/SCD1 combo up to my tv today when I found more room for it on my main tv center. They had been stored in a dry, safe place connected together in my main entertainment room.

The Genesis boots Shinboi III just fine. Awesome. I play it for 5-10 minutes, testing which of my pads were the most comfortable/responsive. I get the urge to toss in Popful Mail and jump around in it for a short bit. My Sega CD, however, will do nothing more than flash it's Green and Red LEDs at me for a brief moment. It does nothing more.

At this point I've tried the following:
1) Checked to make sure I only used the standard Genesis power supply for both.
2) Cleaned the connections between the two units with alcohol/q-tips. They did need this badly! 0_0
3) Yelled at small children who repeatedly came in the room, asking me when they could get a chance to play it.
4) Adjusting the Genny 1's connector to varying degrees of closeness with the Sega CD's connector.

I've got a model 2 Genny that I connected and I get the same results.

Ideas?

Have you tried multiple CD games to see if any would boot up? Maybe the Sega CD's lens needs to be cleaned.

I can't get that far. The lights come up, but the intro screen does not. I've tried mashing the reset button to eject, but no luck there.

Only other thing that I can think of would be to try a different power supply than the one you're using and connect it to the Sega CD and see if you get the same thing.

Does the disc spin?

Does it do the same light up sequence when there is no disc in it?

Sounds like the fuse at F1 is borked. I would open the console and check that the fuse is still intact.

I was kind of hoping it wasn't the fuse. I had done some brief reading on this issue and, to be honest, I don't know jack about fuses. :)

I have, however, soldered some stuff before.
