Had a thunderstorm yesterday loud explosion starting to wonder if something happened to my wii....wasn't plugged into a surge protector as I had only plugged it in to test it worked (bought used-out of warranty....) also unplugging and plugging in so far have not worked (I'll try waiting longer) its looking like I need to try another PSU or buy another one I'm hoping the whole thing isn't fried though any advice? What are the chances I'm screwed and out 180 bucks? Also I think wiiconnect may have been on at the time...

It's quite possible that the Wii fried itself. You said there was a large explosion? Describe this large explosion I.E. what it is.

This actually happened to me the other day. =O It's most likely the power cable. If you know someone who has a Wii try their power cable or see if a local game store will test it for you just to make sure.

My step grandfather had the same thing happen, try unplugging it for like 5 or 10 minutes. If that doesnt work go with the new power cable route. Im pretty sure it has a fuse wich also may be replaceable.

Sounds like your house got struck by lightning. Happened to my family about a decade back, fried a television, a computer and my mom's treadmill, not to mention set our well pump on fire. Ever been out in a massive thunderstorm trying to put out a fire? Not fun.

But yeah, I would try a new power cable first, but if that doesn't work, your Wii is probably fried. Nintendo might be able to fix it for you, but it might cost more than what you paid.

god I hope its not fried :( I'm going to try a new psu at a game shop and buy one if thats all it is (here's hoping) then I'll try nintendo repair (or buying a new one....)

This happened to me a few years ago. Massive explosion outside. Turned out that a transformer exploded on the pole. Also turned out that it completely fried my PC...which WAS on a surge strip.

Try another power supply if possible, but I am afraid it will be more than that...sorry to say.

Nintendo repair will run you nearly as much as a new one from my experience.

just need a power supply picked up a nyko model for the price of a nintendo one...works fine but I hear all these things about them being bad....should I order an official nintendo one to be safe?
