View Full Version : Did I fuck up the installation of a 72 pin connector?

Ok, so I just installed a new 72 pin in a toaster NES for the first time. It seems to work fine, the games work when the "elevator" isn't pushed down, but the elevator will not stay down when I push it down.

Is this normal, or did I fuck up the installation? I don't really care as long as the games work but have a bunch of extra NES I was planning on installing connectors in and selling on ebay, and don't want buyers complaining about it.

Yeah I had that happen on mine - just take it apart and put it back together again - and make sure you're putting the screws back where they were... I mixed a few up.

If you have another to compare...

I'm with Skaar on this one. It's happened to me too a few times. Just take all the screws out again and reseat the board and cart holder. Just redo this one or two times and the problem should work itself out. You just didn't have something in exactly the right place when you started tightening the screws is all.

There is a lip underneath the spring loading device. My name for the thing you insert the game into. That lip needs to be underneath the mother board for it to work correctly.

Just as Starwander said, the lip stayed on top of the board, so the spring mechanism doesn't work correctly. Classic beginner mistake. But you only make it once, you'll never forget about it now.

You fucked up! You probably screwed the screws too tight and it's causing more upward pressure.

Thanks for the help! It's a pain to unscrew the thing and put it back together again but I will. >_>

Thirded. Though I think I've done this more than once. ;)

Just redid it, and it's working good now.
Thanks again everyone!

Does leaving it like how it was bad? My NES is like this, and I just never bothered to fix it because it works fine.

I think it puts stress on the circuit board. Nothing too strong as to break it but if you ever sell it, your buyer would complain for sure.
