Hi guys

I have some very rare items for sale and I'm looking to get fair offers on them. These are not things you see everyday, so please be considerate of that if you decide to make a best offer on something.

First up is an XBox Debug Kit: $175 shipped OBO

This Debug was used by Lucas Arts to develop games. Although it does not have the "Debug Kit" stenciled on the front, it is indeed a legit unit as indicated by the sticker on the bottom. This unit has a build of "Secret Weapons Over Normandy" where all in game text is in Spanish. The unit does not play retail games and is in good working condition. It does not come with any controllers or AV cables, but I will include a power supply.

Next item for Sale, Cheetahmen II Box Only: SOLD!!!!

This is one you don't see everyday. One of the rarest NES boexs all by itself, Cheetahmen II! The box is in great shape, although this is a bit of a crease in the back top right corner (tough to see in the pic). The box will be shipped in the pictured box protector.

Last up is an XBox Development Kit: SOLD!!!

This is one you don't see everyday. Rumor has it the original price of one of these was $10K and there was a limit of only 2 per dev company. Whether that is true or not, this thing is still rare as hell. This one comes packed with a TON of debug features (seen in the pics) and again has a build of "Secret weapons over Normandy" but this one is in English and you start on the first mission. The console has not been opened and does not plae retail games. Its in excellent working condition, and again it won't come with anything other and a power cord.

The last one that sold (that I know of) went for $200 over on the NA boards. It's not a box that you seen very often.

Yeah, and I'm actually fairly confident that it is a record low sale (if you don't include my purchase of it). If I had waited for the right buyer, I probably could have squeezed $200 out of it, but I got it for a good deal and figured I'd return the favor.

Now I also got a good deal on those Xbox dev and debug kits, so I'll say this one more time. If ANYONE is interested in them, just shoot me an offer. You may very well have to wait 6 months for another Dev Kit to hit the market, and Debugs aren't exactly common either ;)

Last up is an XBox Development Kit: $500 shipped OBO
Rumor has it the original price of one of these was $10K and there was a limit of only 2 per dev company.

None of that is true, by the way... The dev system cost $600 to order from microsoft back in the day. There was no limit on how many you could own. It's common for developers to own several hundred of each unit. Game testers tended to use debug systems, but the actual developers and artists usually have developer kits.

My offer at $250 still stands.

Although not the most reliable source, this is not information I just made up:
http://www.llamma.com/xbox/xbox_developer_kit.htm

Here is a link to assembler where one sold in August for $450: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19489&highlight=xdk

Granted it had an unreleased ROM, but it didn't have nearly as many cool apps that mine has.

Another that sold for $358.18 in October (it sold in 2 days): http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20465&highlight=xbox+development+kit

Yet another that sold for $325.60 (this time in one day) again in October: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20407&highlight=xbox+development+kit

Another that sold in June of last year for $325.60: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19073&highlight=DVT-4

This is where I got the info from. A broken ass dev kit that was unable to power on just sold about 35 days ago for $183 plus shipping on EBay, so I'm looking to get a bit more for my fully functional, unopened, sweet as hell dev kit with a ton of programming apps on it. You could wait to snag one for $250, but you may be waiting an AWFUL long time.

Any others interested?

Oh man...that Cheetahmen II box would've been awesome, as I have the cart only :(

ProgrammingAce is correct as well with the information on the kits. There was no limit per developer/studio and they were not that expensive to order.

I paid $1000 for a Stadium Events NES NTSC box.

A couple of links also stating the $10k figure:

http://developers.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/12/11/2346244

This one list actually figures for the PS3 Dev tools, all in the high thousands of dollars. Seems weird that there would be a jump of $600 for one generations dev systems to thousands upon thousands for a competitor the next generation.

Regardless, anyone who has dealt with me knows that I will be very reasonable to listening to offers (I just gave a 20% discount on one of the lowest known CMII box sales), so please don't hesitate of sending some offers that are closer to what they have gone for in the past.

That's where the confusion sets in, the license to develop a game was $10,000 (higher or lower depending on how well your company can negotiate).

Once you have the license, you can buy the hardware for fairly cheap. Developers have thousands of these things, a company like EA may have 4,000 - 5,000 developer kits, each programmer needs one. Even the interns have them. They certainly did not pay $10,000 each for them.

For example, a 360 debug kit only costs about $500 from microsoft. If you want the developer system with all the bells and whistles, it's only $900 (side car, performance analyzer, etc).

As for the applications on the hard drive, those are just the sample code from the XDK. The problem is, too many people get their information from assembler's site, and too many people on his site lie so they can brag about all their cool stuff. It's just a huge game of oneupmanship.

While i don't doubt that you may be able to get more then $250 for it, that's all i'm willing to offer. I have no need to wait for the price to come down, I already have 3 of them.

Duly noted!

Anyone interested at $350 or best offer for the Dev kit and $250 for the Debug? With recent sales it looks like this is more than a fair deal, shoot me a PM if you want it!

Development Kit has been sold for $315! Anyone want the Debug? I'll be VERY fair on the price!

Edit: Had an offer on the gamesniped forums for $425, but didn't see it until after I had agreed to sell to a member over on AA. Bad news for me, great news for the buyer!

What's the story on the Cheetahmen II box thing? Why is that worth so much. What's it for?

What's the story on the Cheetahmen II box thing? Why is that worth so much. What's it for?

Long story short, Cheetahmen II was never released during the lifetime of the NES. It was made by Active Enterprises, but they folded before they could release it. Mike Etler ended up purchasing the boxes and carts, assembled them, sealed them up, and sold them. Because of this, nearly all went directly to collectors who kept it either sealed or CIB (there was a small slip of orange paper also included). On extremely rare occasions, a cart only collector would decide that they didn't want the box and sell the box, and possibly later the game, separately. This is how I obtained my box only copy.

I figure if I ever go on to completing the unlicensed portion of the NES library after I complete the licensed part (just knocked off Stadium Events, down to just 14 left), I'll end up buying it complete or CIB anyway and end up with an extra box.

This was the watered down version, but it should give you a decent idea of what the deal is with it.

I just registered on the assemblergames forum to check out the Marketplace and the above links, but it says it's Private.

Do I have to wait a certain amount of days or have a certain # of posts to enter it? Thanks.

It gets unlocked 10 days after you sign-up, so be patient. In the mean time, there's plenty of stuff to read 'round these parts.

I don't know, but $1000 for a SE box would be a steal today.

I have nothing to add here otherwise. I might be interested in the debug unit though.

I'm referring to what PCc8 said about $140 being a lot of money for a box. It's obvious he's unaware of the value of boxes, which are worth way more than the carts for practically any Nintendo system these days.

Chopping another $50 off of my asking price for the debug. Anyone want it for $200 shipped? Not sure how much lower I'm willing to go on it, may be your last chance before I keep it or EBay it.
