AH crap, I did it again. Sorry for the lateness. I have a decent reason, but it doesn't matter...so let's just get on with it.

Club Rules

01. You do not need to sign up for the club. If you want to participate, simply download the game of the week and post about it!

02. At the end of the week, I will randomly select a game from a list of nominations.

03. The current MAME Club Pick of the Week can be found every Monday stickied at the top of the Arcade Alley.

When I say Metro-Cross you probably think motorcycle game. And you'd be dead wrong. This Namco game is a cross between Pitfall, Olympic Steeplechase, Adventure Island, and an advertisement / nightmare for recycling aluminum cans.

Metrocross was a neat game, kind of like Excitebike with more obstacles. I spent more effort trying to clear the stage before time ran out than I did scoring points. (kicking cans, etc.) And here's a hint- you have to press and hold the jump button when you hit a springboard, its the only way to clear level 3.

41800, one credit. (third try)

My best is about 39,300. I've made it about 5 meters from the end of round 5. I have to say that the 4th round is about as pure evil as any level in a jumping style game I have ever seen.

I'll have to try it tonight. I did a review of the NES version of this a while back and didn't realize it was an arcade game too!

And on the other side, I had no idea it was a NES game! That's one to look for at the stores this weekend.

Splitting hairs alert: it's a Famicom game, no NES version was published. :)

Hey, no worries sir. Play it next week and come back and talk about it then. Just because we do these threads weekly doesn't mean that you can't go back and continue conversations from previous weeks.

If you'd like to go back and see every game, just go to search and search for MMMC, and all the threads will pop up for you.

I made it to round 6, 50k after a couple tries. It's a interesting game and one that I haven't played before, but it doesn't have a lasting appeal that makes me want to keep playing. It's definitely something I will go back to some time in the future.

I suggest any of the following for next week:

Gunbarich
Moon Shuttle
Pitfall 2
Uo Poko

I don't really participate in MAME or emulation but I did want to give you guys a giant thumbs up for Metro Cross. I grew up playing this on the Atari ST and it has always been one of my favorite games.
