Hey all. Just dug out my old Gameboy Pocket, plugged in the AC adapter, turned it on, and was stunned by the silence.

Sound plays just fine with headphones, but nothing is coming out of the internal speaker. Anyone else ever had this happen to them?

Have you tried turning up the volume?

I have to ask.

Yeah, I tried that. Like I said, I get great sound outta the headphones, but nothing outta the built in speaker.

If the headphones are working then it's probally not any chips. It has to be either a loose speaker wire or a bad speaker? That's my guess anyways.

Well that's good to know.

How tough is it to repair? Easy to access?

I've never taken a Gameboy Pocket apart but if it's anything like a regular GB then the hardest part is finding a tri-wing screw driver.

if you're using a headphone maybe a loose headphone jack..

That's good to hear. Getting a tri-wing shouldn't be too hard, so I'll crack it open and see what's what.

That could be a possibility too. The jacks are set up to act as switches so when you plug in a headphone it "turns off" the speaker. If you don't see any obvious damage you could try retouching all the solder points leading up to the speaker.

Let us know what you find when you crack 'er open.

Sounds like the speaker is busted to me.

Maybe a bad capacitor, I'm pretty sure that can cause the same problem with other portable systems(I believe Turbo Express and Game Gear).
