Not true the input for the American model 1 is 120V AC 60Hz 18W and the input for the Japanese model 1 is 100V AC 60Hz 13W. The output is what I need to figure out now but I would like for someone to verify that my input rating is correct as well.

The input doesn't matter as much if you're going to use a Japanese console in the US. The 10-20V difference isn't significant. Besides, what matters is the output since that is what the console will receive.

Mega Drive (Jap)
SA-160A
Output: 9V DC 1.2A
Connector: coaxial 5.5mm/2.1mm (DC plug 2.1mm)
Polarity: center negative

Sega Genesis 1, Sega CD 1, Sega CD 2
MK-1602
Output: 9V DC 1.2A
Connector: coaxial 5.5mm/2.1mm (DC plug 2.1mm)
Polarity: center negative

Same output and configuration. You should be able to use an US power supply just fine. If you don't feel confident about doing that you can get a Japanese power supply. The model number is SA-160A as indicated in the quoted specs.

Thanks for the help, I think I might just buy a japanese power supply for it since I found a site selling the official ones for only about $8.
