View Full Version : Is there an adaptor or converter that will allow me to play Gensis games on MD2?

Hey everyone

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I am new here and in desperate need of some advice!

I just bought a couple of Genesis games for my UK Mega Drive 2 console. On the internet, it said they would work fine. But, they don't. Every time I put them into my MD, it says, "Developed for use only with NTSC Genesis Systems".

What I want to know is, is there a converter or adaptor out there that will allow me to play the Genesis games on my MD, or are they doomed to be re-sold on eBay?

Many thanks in advance!

xx

I think you can use a Game Genie or Pro Action Replay and enter a specific code(s) for that game that will bypass the region message.

Yep, Game Genie is the way to go here. Cheap and simple, just grab the region code online and voila, Genesis games on your PAL Megadrive.

Just as a warning, I've been having this same issue and while the Game Genie works, the code is not always the same for all games. Dynamite Headdy, for example, uses a different code than Sonic 3. And not all games appear to have codes online. I can't find a code that will make a North American TMNT: Hyperstone Heist work on a Japanese console.

Look for a Mega Key cartridge converter. The one I have has dip switches you set for region/display. It may well be cheaper to just import a US Sega Genesis though, if you have something that displays NTSC signals, which most modern TVs should.

Hey everyone

Thanks so much for all your help! I will get a Game Genie, as getting a console is a bit out of my price range!

Thanks!

Peace

Here are the only codes I found so far:

Any game that uses the standard Sega lockout code can be bypassed by modifying the ROM header.

For these games, the following codes will work:
- US: 0001F0:5520 (EAAT-BL1T) (changes region to US)
- EU: 0001F0:4E20 (EAAT-A61T) (changes region to EU)
- JP: 0001F0:4A20 (EAAT-AY1T) (changes region to JP)

So far, works with:
Castlevania - Bloodlines

Castlevania - The New Generation

Jurassic Park

Megaman the Wily Wars

Sonic 3

Sonic Spinball

Dynamite Headdy doesn't use the standard Sega lockout code.

- 00036E:4E71 (REBT-A6XR)
- 000370:4E71 (REBT-A6XT)
- 0003CE:4E71 (REBT-A60R)

Rockman Megaworld
Game Genie:
Region Bypass: V2AT-BMEJ + EAAT-BL1T + REBT-A6XL

That's all I found so far. The standard Sega code will work for most but not all. I still have a couple of games that I can't get to play since I don't have the right code.

Maybe it would be a good idea to compile a list of all Genesis/MD games that have a lockout and then note which games use the standard Sega code and which do not.
