Do you call lives "men", "lives", "guys", or something else?

Remember in the arcades how everyone used a slang term to indicate that they had spare lives in stock, or had just earned one? Which have you used personally?

I used to use the term "guy" because my dad used the word. Now I just use lives.

I think it would depend on the game so it would a bit of everything. I do remember calling extra lives "Marios" for a while though becasue after a while it would bother people.

What game are you playing? Credits and lives/men/guys/ships are hardly the same thing.

1 credit = 3 lives (generally)

I used to call them men as well, but then switched over to lives as I got older.

I use lives the most in conversation and such. Lives as in "lie-vs" not "lih-vs" I used men for a while when I was younger but it kind of came out of use for me when I discovered most video games werent mario style platformers that involved some man.

I have always refer to them as 'lifes'

we used phrases in my youth such as:

30 lifes in Contra trick
100 lifes in Mario trick
extends referred to as 'extra life'

I think it depends on the game. Generally it's "lives" as a generic term. If the game actually says something like MAN x 3 or something then it'll be men... the expression "Extra Life" is probably my main reason for calling them lives.

A friend of mine's mom always made him say chances, because she was nervous about him talking about losing his lives all the time. She was rather religious and funny about stuff like that.

I can't remember the last time I've actually said anything to the like outloud, but I think I used to call them 'tries'.

I'm reminded of that video game episode of Fairly Odd Parents where AJ says, in a very cheesy voice, "You got another man!"

When I am expressing how many I have, i use lives. When i get an extra one, i usually interchange "1ups" and "guys"

I used to call them credits, but now I always call them lives. I think when I was little I would call them "guys" too.

Actually, when it's a close group of friends of mine together and we're playing a game like that, we have a couple words that are universal replacements for other words. I recall saying "It's ok, you've got 3 pikas left" as in Pikachu. We were playing Contra o_O

When I was younger I used probably all that have been said, but now its pretty much just "lives". Maybe its a maturity thing? Seeing how I still laugh everytime I hear anyone pass gas, I doubt it.

I would call them men when I was younger. By the time SNES I was calling them lives.

Everyone remember telling someone you knew to jump down that hole for free lives? It's even funnier when the person actually believes it(and no lives left.)

I mostly called them "extra guys'. Or it would depend on the specifics of a the game, like video pinball it would be "extra balls" An extra life would be a "free guy". Sometimes I'd joke around and say "freguys", especially in games where they gave you a lot at once, like SMB3 with the stomp trick. "I just got TEN freguys!"

also when joking around I'd say "mans", and when I used to play Megaman 2 me and my buddy would say "free megaheads"

I also use to call it "lives" and/or "extra lives" :) I am not quite sure which one of those that i say the most though, but i would guess that i maybe say "extra lives" more instead of "lives" :)
