I got a SMS off eBay, and it arrived today.
I plug everything in correctly and turn it on, and nothing. The Line 2 thing comes up on the TV, and flickers, but the game doesn't come on.
I tried blowing on everything, unplugging/replugging the cords, and changing the power supply.
I tried the channel switch, I tried different channels on the TV, and nothing works.
How are you hooking it up? I bought a SMS on Ebay and couldn't get it to work through the RF no matter what I tried. As a last ditch effort I tried connecting it using composite cables (think I found them on Amazon) and it worked beautifully. Maybe your system is similar?
Also when you try all the different configurations of hooking it up do so without the cartridge plugged in. AFAIK all SMS have some sort of preloaded game on them, you don't need to be fooling with whether or not the cartridge slot works until after you've determined the system works.

I'm using an A/V composite cable that came with it.
I'll try it without the cartridge... See if it helps any.

Took out the cartridges..Still nothing.
Since the built-in is Missile Defence, should I plug in the glasses when I try it?

does the power light come on? Make sure the av and power cables are all tightly connected to the tv and system.

Yeah. The power light comes on. Everything is fine except the screen flickers.
I'm using an A/V composite cable that came with it.
In that case, have you tried a RF hook-up? The SMS should be able to use the same RF switches as the Genesis (Model 1?) and the NES.
Also, you don't need the 3D glasses hooked up to test Missile Defense, just to play it.

The RF switch is not an option.
I don't have an RF cable....My Genesis came with an AV cable, and I use a Famiclone for my NES games, also with an AV cable.
I hate RF. AV is easier.
Well, it doesn't work...
Is it possible there's something wrong with the AV cable I'm using?

Definitly try the rf, throw an nes cord on there and make sure its good and tight, make sure your on the right channel too. whoops i posted too late :D Sometimes I can get a regular rca cable to work, one of the old single ones on atari systems and such. Your av cable could be pinched or broke inside somewhere, wiggle it around on the tv and the system and in different angles to see if itll work.

What power supply are you using? An official one?

Yeah, the power supply is made by Sega, I believe.
It says "Sega" on it, anyway.
I tried that one and another one, but nothing.

The only sound is a weird humming noise...
And it's not PAL, I don't believe.

Does the AV cable has only 2 plugs?...White/Yellow?...Is so, switch the plug connections on your tv, example: yellow to white and white to yellow instead....See if it works....Or if the cable has 3 plugs including the RED RCA, undo this one, the SMS doesn't support the Stereo plug..
