All right, here's the deal. I just backed up all my data from my 400GB HDD, to a 250 GB external HDD. I formatted the drive in my PS3, for the sake of installing Linux.

I go to restore the data, and it says there's no backup data found. Puzzled, I try again, and still nothing. I do a search on Google about it, and found out other people having the same issue. They're solution, was to turn off the external HDD after restarting the PS3, then turning it back on again. I've since tried this three times, and to no avail. I checked the external drive on my Mac, and it said 55GB was free, as about 178GB was backed up (This is what my PS3 said after backing up). However, the folder labeled "PS3" says it's only 2.33 GB in size. So where did all that space go? I got onto my friend's Windows machine with the drive, selected view hidden files, and nothing came up.

This is the same drive I used to back up my 80GB HDD (which replaced my 20GB) when I bought the 400GB a couple months ago.

What do you suggest?
