View Full Version : The company you think should start making consoles

Is there any company you would want to see a console from? Maybe the company has made some impressive hardware? Perhaps you would want to see a dead company rise back to give us a few consoles?
I personally would want to see magnavox to give it another try! After compeletelly raped by atari magnavox stopped making consoles. I would love to see a next-gen "alien invaders plus!" or "KC. Munchkin 2000 hyper collectors special awesome edition"

How about Sony? After the success of the PlayStation 2, i could never figure out why they didn't come out with a successor...

Imagine if Square Enix made a console. They'd have the nerd crowd locked up.

I suppose 'Sega' is too fanboy-ish an answer (though not as bad as 'Apple'). In which case, my vote'd go to... Sega. :)

I'm still wondering why EA hasn't made a console yet, with the sheer volume of titles they put out, they'd have enough first party games to have a win w/o any help from other publishers.

If Sega started creating the console and released it about when Sony did, then yeah they could have did it. Just don't make all the mistakes Sony made and also make a reliable console. Having a reliable console would beat out the 360. Not making extremely dumbass moves would make them beat Sony.
However, Sony must have hired all Sega's PR, because if I recall, the stuff Sega did was just as stupid(sarcasm btw.)
I think Sony gets more flak than Sega nowdays though. Back then, gaming wasn't as big back then as it is now. Everyone likes gaming now where as you had to keep it on the down low back then :P.

Naw... I'd say Capcom. They seem like they could carry a console as well as Nintendo has.

I'd imagine Samsung or Toshiba are likely candidates. I don't know whether or not they should but I wouldn't be shocked if they did.

I wish NEC would get back into the Hardware market. The PC Engine was phenomenal. I know that's what they tried to do by working with Sega on the Dreamcast but once that system died I believe NEC's hopes of ever getting back into the hardware market went with it.
Also every electronic device I have ever bought from Phillips or Magnavox has always impressed me with it's features and quality Vs. cost.
I think if Nec and Phillips/Magnavox (All 3 having made consoles in the past) teamed up to make a system it would be awesome!
Then have Sega and Hudson sign on to supply tons of exclusive games and I would be there launch day.

I wouldn't mind it either if hudson and nec team up again to make another console like the pce.Just as long as nec doesn't make another PC-FX :p

According to Asus (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/asus-nintendo-wii,8043.html), they have something better than the Wii. The problem is that they don't have anyone to write software for it. They also have a Wiimote knockoff (http://www.liliputing.com/2008/05/asus-shows-off-wii-style-remote.html).

While it would be nice to see Asus enter the console arena, I can't see them gaining any more mainstream market share than NEC did in the US.
I don't want to see Apple make a console. Imagine what a mess that would be, amidst the irony of how nice the hardware would look.
Personally, I would have liked to see Yoshi Deherrera's design (http://waltercrespo.blogspot.com/2006/10/screen-savers-presents-yoshis-box.html) go into mass production.

I could see Toshiba or one of the other big electronics companies like LG, Panasonic, etc joining up with another company to produce something. I highly doubt it in this market, but the most likely candidate is Apple.

All the Apple talk throughout the thread just reminds me of shaking my head sadly at somebody showing off a pretty breakout game on his iPhone to somebody who was playing a crappy breakout on her Blackberry, and I pull out my DS and say "if you want a handheld game machine freaking buy one" :P

Either way I'd just like it if something weird came out in the near future. I've had the same 3 current gen systems for over a year now and being a system collector I'd like to see more.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Scooter has won the thread.
I can't see a new Sega console being very good, mainly because I'm sure most of the people who were around when Sega actually cared about publishing quality titles the majority of the time have either moved on or are out of the industry.

I don't think any power tools are guaranteed for life. Pretty much anything that needs electricity and has moving parts is not going to be life time guaranteed.

I'd like to see sega start making systems again. i know a lot of people didnt like the dreamcast and it wasn't as close to the popularity of xbox or ps2 at the time, but it was a really good system. and of course my sega gen will always have a place in my heart, that is the system that really made me love gaming.
konami i think would be really cool too, but the odds of konami making a system obviously arn't good lol. but think about all the damn classics konami has made over the years. they are doin something right over there, and i'd like too see that quality put into a system.
but odds are apple would be the next to enter ring of console wars, which im not thrilled about, but hell who knows maybe they'll make a good console that isnt overpriced like everything else they sell.

My initial thought was - "Hey, SEGA should get back into the console biz", but then I realized that most of my SEGA love exists in a time when the Sonic franchise was not yet a joke. So scratch that.
I'd love to see SNK Playmore do it, but the company is so small that they probably wouldnt churn out games fast enough to satisfy the audience.
I wouldnt mind a PopCap game console--all casual, all the time. They really make fun titles. But once again theyre a small operation also.

yeah, if you could find one... low production numbers would make it a rarity
well maybe Toshiba & Samsung should team up and make one... hardware by Toshiba, built-in LCD screen by Samsung... it would be the highest quality console ever made... I'd buy one just because both companies rock so hard!

An Atlus console would be a horrible idea if they followed their game production rates. They make like 50,000 copies of each of their games, would a console be much more?

I just wanna see something new come out of the next generation (or even the current generation). I'm tired of it being only Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. -__-'
I know I already joked out the Sega suggestion, but I'd honestly like to see Sega or NEC enter the ring again, or IBM, Asus (not their stupid Wii-clone), MSI, [insert other computer hardware manufacturer here].

EA I believe has acquired enough studios to be able to do it effectively and Madden alone would garner droves of players. Not to mention their many other franchises.
I really think EA is in a position to do this and it would honestly probably be good for the industry and promote more creativity and developers to fight to be the new third party top dog like EA and without the heavy competition companies like Sega could bring back the 2k series and probably be alot more sucessful with the absence of Madden since it would be on an EA console exclusively.

That would suck ass with EA having exclusive NFL rights. Even if they brought back the 2k series or Tecmo Bowl or anything, most sales from football games come from rabid fans who must have the lastest rosters and stats. It would basically kill football on any other console.

I think that Wal-Mart should make their own consoles at Always Low Prices and run the other game companies out of business. Then, when their console is the only option for the people, they will jack up the prices since it would be the peoples only choice.
But, on a more serious note, I think that Atari should come back.

Google.
They have a great open-platform mobile OS, they're building a desktop OS, and they're easily the most cutting edge and influential web company in the past 20 years.
I'd love to see what they can do with a video game console.
