View Full Version : If you could only own one arcade...

If you could just own one arcade cabinet and no others...which one would it be? And no, a cabinet with MAME and a bunch of roms doesn't count.

I don't own any arcades myself...but if I could only pick one to own, I would probably pick the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade...just cause I probably spent more time plunking quarters into that game as a kid than any other, and I have lots of good memories of trying to beat it with friends (playing all 4 turtles at once).

Probably a Galaga. I have an upright that I can play it on but it's my all-time favorite game and would still get the most playtime.

NEO GEO MVS. That way you could have a good selection of games.

Or maybe a Dynamo HS2 with a Street Fighter 2 kit. There weren't any dedicated SF2 machines, right?

Hmmm tough one, probably...

The Super Mario Bros. Pinball machine. Or actually better yet, the Mushroom world pinball machine.

Probably The Simpsons arcade game, I love that game and I still play it today at my local mall.

I was going to say Aliens VS Predator as it's my favorite arcade exclusive. However, I know a fighting game such as 3rd Strike or something similar would get alot more playtime.

Beat em up games were my favorite in the arcade, but they just don't transition well to a home where you don't have to pump quarters into it endlessly. I'd probably either go the MVs route (which seems to be cheating based on the question) or a nice vert Cave shooter. Nothing too bullet hell crazy, maybe ESPrade. Either that or SFIII Third Strike or some other top notch Capcom fighter.

Mine would be TMNT The Arcade Game 4player

An original Donkey Kong machine -- Nintendo's first big hit, and certainly one of my all-time faves; the Atari 2600 version doesn't even come close, and most later iterations on consoles still left out one of the levels.

My second choice would be the Ninja Turtles arcade game, as I remember dropping WAY more quarters than I should have into that machine at the local pizza place. Great game.

The dynamo cab could be considered dedicated as that was the only way they games were sold in a complete form (non-kit). I have a dynamo with a Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter kit and am looking at picked up a SF2 for it (my all-time favorite arcade fighter).

This would be a hard choice for me. I currently only have room for maybe one more cab, so I guess this may be question I have to face soon. Some likely candidates are:

The Simpsons
TMNT
Ms. Pacman
M vs. Capcom 2
The Avengers

Out of those, probably a Ms. Pacman as it seems they are readily available, and probably super easy to fix for a DIY'er. I really need MAME to try these out though. I currently don't have a machine that's MAME friendly though (I don't think anyway).

Sega Astro City.

Universal Sega cab that can accept any JAMMA-compatible arcade PCB.

TMNT or a pinball machine (Simpsons or Mario Bros.)

FWIW, you can pick up any horizontal JAMMA cab with 2 (or more) buttons per player and play Simpsons, TMNT, The Avengers, and any other JAMMA game in the same cab.

Hmmm...either a NEO-GEO with as many Samurai Shodown games that would fit in it, or a Galaga.

Galaga... I have a serious problem when I play Galaga. I cant get away from it easily when I get the chance to play it. Its so friggin addictive. That and 1942

Space Harrier.

...or maybe Planet Harriers, so I could finally play the damn thing.

I always wanted and still want an original Pac-Man machine. It's just so iconic looking and the sounds are very memorable. Besides it being my favorite game of all time.

Other choices would be... Donkey Kong, DK Jr., Tron, Dragon's Lair, Qbert, Asteroids

Star Wars sit-down, no question. Someday...

X-Men is 3 buttons. :)

At the expense of jacking this one into, TDI's 20 Questions, could you get a 3 button game like X-Men and still be able to play 2 button and less games provided they used a similar joystick? Or are there modifications involved- Just yes or no would suffice here...

Yes. As long as the game's Jamma (or Jamma+) you should be able to swap any other jamma board in the system (as long as it has the proper controls it would be playable).

X-men Arcade machine! Use to go mini-golfing all the time, and their arcade room had a machine of this. Co-op for the win!

Must it be an arcade cabinet? I do enjoy the FunHouse and Addams Family pinball machines a ton.

But if it was an arcade cabinet, I would probably either choose Rolling Thunder or the Galaga/Ms Pac Man combo cabinet :D

I played one of these exact machines yesterday. Is it me or does Ms. Pacman move very very quickly.

My local pizza place has a Ms.Pacman/Galaga cabinet. I always play Galaga though.

The only dedicated machine I currently have, and that's Robotron 2084. It'll make you mad as hell, but it's fun and entertaining when it's not too hot & humid in the outside garage. I could live with that as my only machine as it is now. As a huge Taito fan I would be tempted to get most any of their classic shooters or puzzlers on the fly for a good deal. I could live with just one of those too.

I know my father above all wants an original Asteroids cab. I've kept an eye out for them, but the prices aren't always generous and others don't respond in a timely mannor. He's in no rush though. His other two machines are a Mrs. Pac-Man and Golden Tee.

Street Fighter, House of the Dead, Time Crisis, hard desicion right there for me. I can't really think of any other ones I'd want to have.

There's a whole lot of machines I can think of that I'd love to own. But if it had to be only one... I'd have to say T-Mek from Atari Games. I loved that game so much. My friend and I would tear the crud out of each other on one of their big linked environmental cabs. So many good memories.

My second choice would be the game Polybius.

Galaga. It has always been one of my favourites. In the late 90's, during summer, I would drive to the mall arcade to play their machine. Now it is much easier to walk down to my basement to play. It is such a fun and addictive game.

Gravitar, hands down. I wish I could find a cheap one. I would love to get one of those vector multi-cabnets(any good?) so I could play all the greats like asteroids, space duel, missle command, etc.
