Modding a virtual boy stand?

See this virtual boy stand on the left? Would it be hard to mod a VB stand to be like this?

What I picture is buying a second stand and modding it to be more stable/secure and keeping an original just to have. Has anyone else tried something like this?

Also, FYI, I'm not interested in making the VB eye piece all weird like that person did, just the stand.

From the looks of it, they just modded a camera tripod to fit the VB's stand mount. The most modification to the VB itself would probably be drilling a hole for a metal rod in vice of the tripod, if it has one. At any rate, I'm certain that they just used a camera tripod, which could actually be cheaper than a real VB stand...
