Do share!

I have been collecting classic games alongside with modern games for about a year now. I got out of the console playing business around the the middle of the SNES era, I probably kept about 5 games and a broken snes. I was a computer gamer, not a console gamer.

A year ago, I got a bug up my @$$ to play a game of Zelda, so I downloaded an emulator and the ROM and started playing. I thought it was pretty cool that my roommate had a USB snes adapter, so I used that. It really wasnt the same though.

So, I went on ebay and bought an NES with 18 games and started playing it in a spare bedroom that was used to store like 5 pieces of furniture and an old TV. Well, I dont know what exactly happened, but after that I just started buying games and consoles, next an SNES, then an N64, then a PS3, then a genesis, then a 360, it just went on and on and on.

Pretty soon my friends started to drop by more, wanting to play some Mario, a little Zelda, you name it. Then it hit me, what if I made that empty bedroom into a game room?

So I did...

After that, 2 of my friends went crazy too, and started collecting old games and consoles to play. Alot of the consoles they got from me, because I had extras from a few lots I had bought, but they have been buying games lately. So who else has had this happen to their friends?

Pictures below. ( keep in mind, this is only after a year, last july, I didnt have a single console or game )

LOL! I have that same entertainment center that has all the nintendo and saturn systems!

I caught the collector bug around 2003 when the GameCrazy's started popping up in my area and saw all the old genesis stuff. I then found a few independent stores about 25miles where i live. And thats when my collecting bug grew like a virus.
I can't say i got my Brother-in-law into retro collecting as he had some nintedo stuff allready, but got more into it when i found the independent stores and wants to go their whenever he visits my home.

No, my collecting hasn't rubbed off on my friends.

They like the latest and greatest items, which is fine by me. They can play the older stuff if they desire and I can play the newer games now, instead of waiting for them to go out of style at a much later date.

I have some friends that really like classic games but they're much more likely to use emulators and roms. Which works for me since they sell me their old systems super cheaply. Most of them do like my setup, though.

Yep, it has rubbed off. I have a friend who has started only buying "complete" copies of stuff because of my obsession. My girlfriend, who used to only really play modern stuff/not care about the game cases, etc., now keeps track of her game collection using PC software and always goes for "CIBs."

Definitely a contagious hobby, this one.

awesome! I figured it had to rub off on people, considering you can play with what you are collecting. Perfect thing to collect imo.

Well, a friend of mine started to compete with me somewhat when we were till in highschool. I wasn't actually buying to get a massive collection, just to play and collect. But he thought I wanted to beat him, so he started buying games as well...by the bucketfulls.

Today he simply plays and sells...he is no longer interested in game collecting. With me, while not like before, I still like to collect, though I don't play quite as often as I used to.

I have a friend who is more of a movie collector, but got in to collecting games from me. He has 550 NES games, about 120 Dreamcast games, and so on. He hardly had anything when I first met him. He actually has more than me now.

I wouldn't say collecting, but every single one of my friends that I move in with, by the time I move out, they are pretty hardcore gamers
