Off the topic a bit, sorry, it's just... is it me, or are others finding a whole mess of those little portable TV sets in thrift stores? It seems a bunch of my favorite thrifts have practically exploded with little 4 or 5 inch black and white TVs. I wish I knew anything about electronics, I'd like to start buying them all up cheap and make some kind of art project out of them.

The only use I could see from them are the color ones that could potentially be used for handheld projects.

Are you looking for a color one? I actually have one I could sell to you pretty cheap.

I bought one at a thrift store a while ago with a built in radio, think i paid like 5 bucks for it, at least the radio still works. Plus if it has VHF screws you can hard wire one of those converter boxes to it.

I had typed up this essay-sized rant on pocket TVs, but I realized that you basically need to know 2 things about pocket TVs to determine whether they're worth a certain price:

-It's brand and model number.

and

-It's age.

Pre-1998 ish (I'd say) pocket TVs used STN technology, which is much, much worse than standard TFT LCDs used today. Casio pocket TVs of the TV-### variety are of no use for making portable gaming systems or for using for a display monitor, because of how blurry the STN screens display. Some of these "worse" TVs have AV input, and I guess you could run cable through them, but you get much better picture on newer pocket TVs

If you need a Casio TV for displaying or portable game system making purposes, then go for a Casio EV-### or SY-###, or any other comparable brand and type of TV (i.e a Coby LCD). They use really clear and downright spiffy TFT LCD screens.

Newer pocket TVs that use the better technology are worth more, while the older ones are worth considerably less. The older TVs are only worth the small amount that they fetch on eBay because there is a small community of pocket TV collectors.

Just FYI if you need a screen for a game system or such I suggest buying a broken portable DVD player on eBay. If you find one that accepts AV input and just powers up, then chances are you don't need the non-functioning actual DVD circuits to use it. I have a neat 5.5" screen that went with a dual screen DVD player. I got it for $10 and it works just fine for displaying games, even text on PS2 games show clearly on it.
