It was today, in 1991 that Sonic first emerged and graced us with insanely fast platforming.

Pay your respects to the dude who is Sonic

More like who WAS Sonic. :p

Happy Birthday again Sonic, here's to hoping you'll release a 2D Sonic game that will be on a regular console and as good as the ones you started with back in 1991.

yeah was is probably more appropriate at this point. Fired up some sonic chaos on my power base converter that arrived yesterday. Need to get ahold of some others. Sega europe was giving away goodies on facebook but I missed out :(

Yeah. To one of my favorite game characters of all time. No matter how much they butcher the newer series the classics will always be some of the best games.

Here's looking forward to the hack Sonic 1 Megamix's true final release as well as the fangame Retro Sonic XG.

Is it just me or do these birthdays get more depressing with each passing year?

Uh, Yes.

Happy Birthday, Sonic, the hip and happening hedgehog!

I just realized, now he is legal for certain activities (18+).

Maybe for you, but definately not for me

Its just a reminder of how long ago the golden age of Sonic games was.

Thank you SONIC for so much fun in my early years. May you one day be restored to your former glory!

Sonic was the reason I upgraded from an Nes to a Genesis instead of a Snes.

Man I was there from the first game to the new one on the WII besides mario sonic was always a house hold name in my life. When Sega got outta the wars I was more worried about Sonic then any thing from sega. Well happy Birthday sonic. Sonic will never die

Sonic will never die

Thats a bad thing if the games continue to be made in the same fashion.

Ah, I still remember when the first Sonic came out. A few weeks after the game's release, my mom rented me a Genesis from the store along with Sonic, and had it waiting for me when I got home from school. I became addicted to that game like crack.

I hope Sega can start making good Sonic games again...but that would probably be asking them too much.

With all the negativity in this topic, hey.

We all know we're getting too old for this.

Same here, got the Genesis with Sonic 1 as the pack-in for Christmas of 1992 after seeing the game running on one of the demo units at a Toys R Us.

I didn't really want a Genesis until the first NHL game came out. That got me interested in the system. Sonic was too fast and headache inducing for my tastes. I prefer slower moving platformers like Bonks Adventure or JJ & Jeff. :D
