On the auction the guy does say he purchased it off of some other eBay user, so other sites may have been reporting this when it was first purchased.

Not a repro at all, Niels has sold and owned about a billion protos in his time, this is one of them.
I've purchased several protos from him in the past and wouldn't hesitate to do it again in the future, rest assured this is VERY much the real thing.

my first response was going to be "repro" or "fake" but it is cool that he has someone vouching for him. nice find - can't wait to see what it goes for!

I know there was at least one party offering $1k for this, so I'm guessing more than that. This proto doesn't really fall into the price grouping of other unreleased but dumped protos just because of all the hype around it.
I'm not really sure who has the money for this one at the moment, could go for $5k or $500, very tough to tell. Haven't heard a lot about people interested in it, but they could just be biting their tongues until they through a bid down.
Definitely would look cool on the shelf, but I bet you can pick up 1-2 undumped unreleased games for what this one ends for. I'll be watching it for sure though...

Whoa! I just bought a bunch of SNES games from this guy a month ago. So he is/was a heavy weight collector? Nice. I'll keep that in mind.

So is this Mother 1 for the NES or is this Mother 2 before they decided to scrap it and make earthbound?

It's a full first party translation of Mother 1, and it is very much legitimate.

He post at many sites (including this one). He goes by Simon Belmont here (iirc), and Castlevania4ever on NA. He's been selling out over the past few years, and at one point had an awe-inspiring amount of prototypes.
I think this is one of the last NES prototypes he has.

Huh, after looking at the pics it looks like BeaglePuss and I own the Hatris proto that Jollyrancher found.

Kinda neat, never knew it was in that haul. Small world!
Yeah I've never bought from him before either, but know that he has been collecting for years, and that this is the real thing...

There is a thread for this auction already

Merged the thread that was in Classic Gaming into this one.
This is very much real. When jollyrancher found this and the other proto stuff a few years ago (Campus Challenge ect), he posted quite a bit on DP. Dig around a bit and see the evolution of it all.

He's even added in pictures of the circuit board, which is identical to jolleranchers one!

Because it is the same one. He bought it from him. Did you read the description?

No , I was just clarifying it for people who don't belive it's the real deal. Of course I know it, I did make the thread.

A bit off topic, but that seller has an unreleased GBA RPG. In it are digital pictures of Brendan Fraiser from the Mummy, Mel Gibson from Braveheart, and other actors. LOL
