Try using a different AV cable for the model 1, it might be because you're trying to use a stereo AV cable and the Model 1 Genesis can only output stereo sound through the headphone jack. Or the Model 1 to 32X cable might be busted also.

Yeah, that's what someone at Sega-16 said. I was using a stereo av cable from my model 2 and turns out model 1 only does mono. Just ordered a mono av cable but still need the cable that goes from the Sega CD's L/R audio-out to get stereo sound from the Sega CD.
