The price jump on ebay is insane. If you do a completed listings search, you will see it jumped from the $10-$30 range to the $150-$200 range after his death.

Insane jump.

Yeah, I bought a copy off of eBay for $33 CIB including shipping a few months ago. And I thought it was a tad pricey then. And that was a 12 bid war as well. I wonder if demand will ever go down...

Wat

I understand selling it, but buying for that price...

Ow.

I sincerely hope that this isn't a trend that stays...I've been looking to pick up Moonwalker, but I guess I'll try to find it locally for now. I bet I'll see some serious price-gouging at the flea market.

I'm at work, but what's the highest price that has been listed/sold for this since yesterday?

Baloo

There's one going for $227.50 right now, hasn't ended though.

I knew I should have bought one at 30 bucks but I didn't see the guy dying so soon. Shit.

this at least makes a little sense, there probably aren't millions of copies of that game out there. think about this, right now copies of the thriller lp are selling for $50-$100. it's literally the most common record on the planet.

Good luck with that...I predict that his games will actually drop in price if that's possible.

Just bought one a few weeks ago. I consider myself lucky. It's an okay game.

By the way, I think there are different versions of the Genesis game. the Angry Nintendo Nerd mentions it in one of his videos. Basically he says the music is different on some of the stages.

why not just go for it? say it's rarer than the genesis version. odds are you'll get some decent cash.

Honestly, and this is just my opinion, I'm a collector of many games and even celebrity autographs, but I still find it distasteful to sell an autograph or in this case a video game of a celebrity.

Whenever a celebrity dies, demand goes up and so do prices, in this case a great deal amount. I will keep my complete copy and not sell it. I'm surprised eBay hasn't enacted something where if a celebrity dies nothing can be sold of that person unless it's charity for a certain period of time. Again, ONLY OPINION.

This kind of crap always happens. The prices will peak, level out, and slowly taper off over the next few months.

Three thoughts for this:
1) Go ahead and put the SMS copy up for auction. I saw copies going for $40+ at least for SMS when I just perused eBay a little while ago, so it couldn't hurt if you're looking for a good return. Put a reserve on there if you're going to be cautious.

2) The amount of 1-day auctions is ridiculous...these people KNOW they're getting away with highway robbery and people are perpetuating it. I'm going to ask my mother to send up my Michael Jackson cassettes and sell them on eBay with a 1-day auction. I bet I'll get $30+ for each tape when I originally paid $2 for all of them as a kid.

3) I wonder how much this will skew vgpc's sales?

I wonder if the crap Ocean (UK gaming company) Moonwalker game for C64 will also sell for 1000s

you have to be a serious collector to pay ridiculous prices like that. you can always download the rom for emulators. plus who wants to support someone that touched little kids?

We don't support emulating for mass-released games here.

well if u want to spend $100 plus on ebay for a game u can probably find in regular stores for less, then be my guest. But us normal people that wokrk hard for our money would rather spend that $100 on payin bills and providing for our familes. I bet most of u are those nerds that have no life who spend all day at Digital Press when they have NAVA

Are we even endorsing that customers should buy it at $100+? No.

The online prices for Moonwalker have always jumped around by leaps and bounds, but this is a little silly. I got my copy at a flea market a few years ago for $6.

How much was it going for 1 month ago?

Is it even a good game? I never heard about it before!

$10-30 just a month ago. It's a decent game, nothing too special besides having Jackson's music.

Like I said yesterday, the worst thing is that people are buying Moonwalker, and do not own a Genesis and never will. This is simply the same stupid rubes who do this every time a famous person dies.

You do know it might be worse when Shatner dies right? The actual Trek fans will mourn and than everyone else will suddenly want to watch Star trek and buy the movies or series.

Greg2600

Star Trek fans are not going to go berzerk, besides most of us have the stuff already. Is it Michael Jackson fans, or just stupid hoarders, rubes and speculators going crazy?

Then again, when big sports heroes like Mantle and DiMaggio died, my father made a bunch of money selling pointless plaques. But we didn't rip people off, they were a few bucks.

Yeah I saw that in his video too. Does anyone know what the deal is with this?

In the third stage (3-1 through 3-3), a bit of Thriller plays when Michael uses dance magic against the zombies. Later versions had the music replaced. I'd like to know why, and I know just who to ask...

The plastic is worth a hell of a lot more than the games.

I wish someone would go out and melt down all of the old EA sports genesis titles. LOL

Heh, I'd sell my copy if I had a spare. I really like the game and I know getting another copy will be expensive even after the market settles again. I don't see it working out in my favor.
