View Full Version : Ways to test a Wii game when you don't have the system

I picked up Mario Party 8 for the Wii at a garage sale for $3. I want to test it before I sell it on ebay or trade it in somewhere. I don't have a Wii or know anyone who has one, so I can't test it that way. I also can't use Nero Discspeed to test it, since only a handful computer disc drives can apparently read Wii discs.
The disc is in pretty good condition, but for a slight ring (not a complete one) near the edge and a couple light marks. I don't want to try putting it up on ebay when I can't even see if the disc works. I don't want to jeopardize my 100% feedback rating. Anyone have any ideas or should I just trade it in somewhere and let them handle testing it?

It should be ok, the disc play from the hub out, not the outer edge in....

Ask a friend who has a Wii if you can use theirs for a sec?

If there doesn't appear to be any damage to the disc, chances are pretty damn good that the game will play fine. If you want to have your conscience clean, you can always list it on ebay and mention that the game is "untested". For Mario Party 8, I doubt a small detail like that will change the final price much anyway.

On the good side of any Gamestop etc. employees?

Rent a Wii from your local video store?

Not many people do that anymore. I have a great idea though. Go to Gamestop and tell them that unless they let you test out the game, you'll tell everyone that they sell their used games as new.
Nothing like a little blackmail to get you results :D

this is easy. Yell really loud, "If this disk doesn't work properly, then may God himself strike me dead with lightning." If you don't get struck by lightning, then there is a 50% chance the disk is perfectly fine. If you do get struck by lightning, do not use the disk as it may be bad.

You can try using a PC utility called FriiDump to read the data on the Wii disc (for informational purposes only :)). FriiDump has a fallback mode if your DVD drive isn't an officially supported model.

Even if it works it won't be that good. It's a Wii game and Mario Party.

Thanks for all the replies. I just decided to put it on craigslist for now. I might try ebay and say it's untested if it doesn't sell on craigslist.
