I've been looking for a copy for a while now, and I finally got one at Waba Games in Atlanta for $38.
It's complete, and in overall good condition.

Here's a question for all the collectors living in Japan; is this game really as rare as everybody says?
I know it carries hefty prices on the internet, but price doesn't equal rarity as you probably already know.

Finally, what would you rate the game's rarity based on the DP guide?

Moderately rare. No way near as rare as a mint copy of the Japanese-only version of Bomberman 64 though....

How much does that Bomberman 64 go for in Japan, anyway? I've heard of it going for crazy amounts on eBay, like around $300, but sometimes it doesn't even hit $100.

I'm just glad I bought it on a whim several years ago. :)

Ooh, that's another one I've been wondering about. I'm pretty sure you see NGE way more often than Bomberman 64.

A complete one almost hit $300 on eBay a couple of months ago. I wish I had the money for one.... :(

The only one released in America was Baku Bomberman. It was retitled Bomberman 64 in America.
Now, the second one is a classic-style Bomberman game, and is widely considered the best since Saturn Bomberman.
That is the "real" Bomberman 64. It was the final N64 game released in Japan.

Here's a couple of Wiki pages for your enjoyment:

Theres also Bomberman Hero (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350241381890&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT). I thought that was the rare import title when doing a search on ebay and finding that and Baku Bomberman.

Sorry, forgot about that one.
There's also Second Attack, which is a sequel of sorts to Hero.

Anyway, there's a complete copy of the "real" 64 on eBay for $90 BIN. That's a pretty good deal, if you ask me. ;)

Really? Do you have a link, I couldn't find it in the search. I'm tempted if it's in good condition...

It only comes up if you search Bomberman 64 under all items. The game is inside that international seller box at the bottom of the page.

The seller is also in Japan, by the way. :D

Thanks for the link! :)

Thanks Kyle! I thought I'd missed it at first, but it has been relisted. Is "relisted" a real word or just ebay language?

I'm buying this on pay day - I used to have Bomberman 64, it'll be nice to get my hands on a copy again. I feel an ebay addiction coming on :shameful: .

I'm starting to lose confidence with my English, does "...addiction coming on" make sense?

It's supposed to be one of the best Bomberman games ever, right?

Yeah, "addiction coming on" makes perfect sense. Your English is great, so you probably shouldn't worry. :)

Did it come with the three Carddass cards and quick-start instruction sheet?
Mine only has the box, cart holder, and manual.

It's actually a good game which is why it's rare. Most anime-themed game boil down to lousy dating sims which sell well initially but flood the used market once people realize they suck. People actually held onto this game. Combine that with generally small sales of n64 games and you get just about the rarest eva game.

it's now on ebay @ 53 $ (bomberman 64 jap version) but how in this world with a little brain will prefer to pay like 10 times the price - for this same amount you can buy a PAL N64 and Bomberman 64 PAL (complete) :D

I think people are on crack with those Bomberman 64 prices. A quick look on Y!J shows a boxed one for an under 3000 yen BIN and loose ones for just over 1000 yen.

Looks like a small box issue, but not a $50 box issue.... Oh well, horses for courses.

Don't criticise it until you've played it! The Japanese version of Bomberman 64 is very different to the US/Europe version.

Box damage does reduce the value considerably though, I see it all the time in the retro soft shops. Mint boxed games for Super Famicom / 64 are worth loads more than damaged ones.

But yeah, it depends on whether you want the nice condition or not... unfortunately I always like to buy my retro soft in mint condition.

Thanks Kyle, you're a true gentleman!

Yeah Bomberman 64 is great. For me, Bomberman 64, Saturn Bomberman, and Super Bomberman 5 are the best Bomberman games.

I forgot about Bomberman DS - that's great too.

Perhaps I like Bomberman more than the average gamer though....

Yeah, I noticed that about 64 soft especially. Loose games ain't worth shit.

I'm personally of the ultra-mint or ultra-cheap school (meaning if the game is super cheap I don't care about condition but for most things I want almost pristine). It's one nice thing about games in standard jewel cases or DVD cases; much easier to get complete/mint. Except for Neo CD games (or I guess US Saturn is the same with its longbox jewel cases) - they have that silly Neo Geo logo on the face of the jewel case that is difficult to replace if you get a cracked case.

But I digress.

I just hate this idiotic period of Nintendo - naming games with the same titles on the same platform but with differend gameplay in differend regions (like final fantasy's / secret of mana / and a lot of SNES games as well - Illusion of time/Ilussion of Gaia, Contra/Proboprotector ... etc)

I just watched on youtube the bomberman 64 for Jap is a classic bomberman game arcade game similar with the PSP version and the US/PAL version are like an adventure with bomberman for main character - of course I am sorry for this confusion (or lack of "information" from my point) but I still think it's stupid to have 2 games with the same name on 1 platform but with TOTALY diferend gameplay.

I have a pretty close source for a minty copy of Saturn Bomberman, so I'll probably go for that one first.

The American/international publishers are to blame for multiple games simply titled "Bomberman".
Most, if not all of the original Japanese games have an additional title or subtitle.

We should rename this thread "Neon Genesis Evangelion......Living In Bomberman 64's Shadow". I actually want both games now but I'm done with my $100 a game phase. I'll look for a cheap copy of each.
