I haven't been playing my older classics much lately for some reason, focusing more on modern games. I've been itching to fire up the old 2600 for example but haven't gotten around to it. I think I finally figured out why: I need to play for some kind of goal. Since most of the older games don't have endings, shooting for a high score is the most logical thing to go for. I'm not dedicated enough to try for Twin Galaxies world records or anything, but I want to start tracking my own scores so that next time I play a game, I can at least try to do better at it.
I considered setting up a database of games (and variations and difficulty levels, since high score tracking doesn't mean much unless you're playing the same variation of the game each time). It shouldn't be hard to do, but I don't want to bother if such a thing already exists. Does anybody know of a web site or program that makes it convenient to track your high scores?
I know a lot of emulators save your scores but I want to play the original hardware. I don't have a problem recording the scores myself... I just want to make sure I'm tracking the game variation and difficulty level so I can keep the score comparisons accurate.
