There are a ton of Sega Ages games with redone graphics on the PS2. Some of the include NiGHTS, Panzar Dragoon, Outrun, Afterburner II, Monsterworld Collection, Fantasy Zone Collection, Space Harrier, etc.

Don't forget the awesome shoot 'em ups like Thunder Force VI, DoDonPachi Dai-Oujou, Shikigami no Shiro: Nanayozuki Gensoukyoku, and a bunch of others I can't think of right now. There are a bunch of RPGs that are playable with a walkthrough. It might even be worth owning Sega Ages Phantasy Star I and Phantasy Star II, just to check out the updated graphics and sound.

There are obviously others, but I just can't think of them right now! Obviously being in Japan, there are probably some games that I just take for granted that aren't available outside of Japan.

IMO, the best import I can think of off the top of my head is Thunder Force VI.

I've got a whole bunch of imports in my FS thread. There are so many sweet games for the PS1/PS2 that didn't make it here, but there are also a lot of terrible ones.

If your into fighting games, you got Hokuto No Ken (Fist of the North Star), Melty Blood Act Cadenza, Rumble Fish, Sengoku Basara X. The list go's on. Try searching for games at play-asia.

Can't believe nobody mentioned this: ChainDive by Albion (Alvion?), a division within the SCEI.

Think NiGHTS... Into Dreams with wonderful, more realistic backgrounds/graphics and there you have it.

I suppose there was a demo released a few years ago in North America, but it never materialized beyond that. It's a fantastic game and reasonably priced when you do find it.

Fan of Macross (aka Robotech in the States)???

You owe it to yourself to pick this up:

The game is short, but oh-so-sweet! There's plenty of unlockable mecha from the series. Have a look at this vid as well.

How about the first two Earth Defense Force Games? Super destruction fun. Cheap, too!

The second one is piles of awesomeness especially if you play with a friend.

both EDF games are available in Europe, also, if you can run PAL and demand english. Great games.

I'll say shmups and fighters would be the most import friendly.

If you don't mind the kiddish look, consider getting Twinkle Star Sprites: La Petite Princesse. Me and my bro had fun in the vs mode.

As was mentioned above, Shikigami no Shiro is also not bad.
