Hello all,

I have a Tekken 4 machine. When i got the machine a couple of months ago, The monitor was very nice and clear. After some time, I noticed that if I left it on, or played it for more than a couple hours, my monitor got noticeably more blurry then when I first powered on the machine. This happened for a couple weeks. Now the blurry effect is happening right when i turn the machine on. For example, at the character select screen, the little pictures of the characters are getting getting tough to make out (for any player who doesnt know who they are, of course). It is also extremely noticeable on text and things with defined lines. The brightness hasnt been effected. Actually, the characters almost have a glow to them (a blurry, bright, soft edge glow)

I have tried to go into test mode and play around with the settings. I have it currently set to non-interlace with all the default setting for brightness and color. I tried switching it over to interlace, but the screen wasn't completely stable, so I changed it back. I also tried to lower the brightness, but then it was just darker and blurry.

Also, when the picture fades out to transition to the next screen (of any kind) there is a brief moment in the transition when everything looks very nice and clear. It seems the monitor is still capable of producing a nice picture.

Does anyone have an ideas on what the problem might be? The monitor seems like it is more then capable of looking nice and defined, but I need some guidance getting it there.

Thank you so much.

-Frank

You checked the knobs on theback of the monitor? There are usually two sets of knobs these days..

It sounds like something is starting to go. There is usually a "focus" knob on the flyback. I wonder if that might help. Other than that, someone with more experience fixing monitors should know what's going on.

Your monitor might need the capacitors replaced, a process known as a cap kit. Bob Roberts may have a kit that is appropriate for your model of monitor. Or it could also be the flyback starting to go.

I would try a cap kit first, then replacing the flyback.

Soldering skills are required, and you will need to discharge the anode cap before working on the monitor.
