You will kick yourself when I tell you this.

The cards you collect at the ends of the levels, if you run and jump at a 45 degree angle you will almost always get a star card. That means every three levels you will get 5 free lives.

You gotta time it right, but it works.

Back when I was in my SMB3 playing prime, I would play to World 5 or 6 warp to World 8 and beat the game with like 50+ lives in reserve.

Thanks. I always thought there was some trick to the card thingy at the end of each level but I never looked into it.

I think the trick is to have your "P" meter fully charged when you hit the card box to always get a Star card.

I have to admit that my World 8 skills have degraded with the passage of time.

I still remembered to swim under the boats though. 8-)

My skills in Worlds 1-4 are still machine-like in precision.

.

I swim that one boat level every time just perfectly and the one time I show off to a friend I go to low and die. LOL

Its a nice trick though. I mean, those random tank, flying and water levels are pretty irritating. I actually think the flying one is more difficult than Bowser's castle itself.

That is why you save up a couple of P-Wings to use on the "flying levels". :wink 2:

Well, fortunately there's just the one. And I agree, it's probably the hardest level of the game.

(Maybe we should get a thread split in here?)

You mean make a "Super Mario Bros 3 Strategy Thread?"

That's right, there are two tank levels.

Why not. But most of these tricks are stuff Nintendo told themselves...be it from the Mario 3 guide or the NES Game Atlas.

That would be an interesting thread. A thread based on the strategies of classic video games. Randomly you put a tip, cheat or trick for a game as a post.
