LucasArts today announced that they will soon be releasing games from their back catalog through Steam. The releases begin this Wednesday with a group of eight games, including Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, The Dig, LOOM, and Star Wars: Battlefront II. This is apparently just "the first round of releases," so we can doubtless expect to see more of their old games before long. Joystiq spoke with LucasArts CEO Darrell Rodriguez, who said the company is considering updated versions of the old games, depending on how well next week's launch of Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition goes. He also hinted at the possibility that some games could be ported to mobile gaming devices, such as the PSP Go and the iPhone.http://games.slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?from=rss&op=image&style=h0&sid=09/07/06/1948229 (http://games.slashdot.org/story/09/07/06/1948229/LucasArts-To-Re-Release-Old-Games-Through-Steam?from=rss)

Well this is excellent news. I'll finally be able to try full throttle if they release it. I'd also love to be able to run Grim Fandango in XP

It'll be nice to finally be able to play some of the greats I missed out on (Indie, Loom) and be able to play Day of the Tentacle again. Maybe this will help revive the classic Point and Click game and they will release new games, Maniac Mansion 3 perhaps?

Maniac Mansion 3 perhaps?

Imagine if it was online and you could somehow be good or evil. I can see it now, (player one goes into mansion, player two captures him and throws him in dungeon, player one escapes with fashioned tazer gun and zaps player two and runs, player two arms traps upstairs.) Ok a bit far fetched I guess, but it could be awesome!

Regardless I will be picking up a few if not all of these.

Nice, Battlefront II.
