Ok for me this is really simple give it a good camera (check), A decent story (check), and try to make the gameplay different, and not repetive but thats just me i dont have many needs so how about you.

If I have to stop in order to shoot, something has gone horribly wrong.

Gungrave has what I crave. Over-the-top style with a mix of wackiness, and shootin' tons of stuff that blows up and/or dies and spews forth all over the place.

Funny, I was just thinking the same thing, but for a different reason.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to call it "threadcrapping", but it seems like lately when someone asks a simple, honest, straightforward question what follows is a series of cynical responses that are intended to be humorous....until eventually things right themselves and you get to the actual responses.

If you don't like the question or think the thread is dumb, I challenge you to come up with a more challenging, thoughtful, discussion-worthy topic.

Or maybe the hobby is simply beneath some of you. These aren't exactly the mensa forums.

The Syphon Filter series gives a pretty good idea of what I like in third person shooters. Twisting storylines, unpeckable control, over the top presentation and excellent voice acting. Oh, and it has to be fun too.

Flexible camera control is always nice. Having the option to flip X and Y axis camera control should be a standard feature.

I'm also a sucker for new and interesting aiming gimmicks. Headhunter: Redemption has my favorite third person shooter aiming setup evar. EVAR.

Clever level design that doesn't force the player to struggle with poorly implemented platforming is always a huge bonus. If I wanted to play a third person platformer, I'd play Rayman 2, Mario 64 or Sly Cooper. Very few third person shooters get the platforming right (Ratchet & Clank!), so unless you think you can make something on par with Insomniac, please just focus on making killing people more interesting.

Oh, and I especially like realtime cutscenes in third person shooters. I don't like them in first person shooters (hello, I'd like to remain in the 1st person viewpoint if I'm playing a FPS!), but they tend to work pretty well in a third person game.

Heyyyyy guyyzzzzzzz!!! What games are better? New games or old games! I like old games cause I'm old school!

Back on topic, for me, a third person camera MUST have a camera that is not retarded. The camera must be smart enough to both follow me, but also let me know what is going on around me. Also, let me override the camera at any time using the right analogue stick.

I agree that I am all for retarded over the top action. Games like Gunz are right up my alley

I haven't figured out what I like in a third person shooter, maybe someone else will see what it is:

Love playing:

Ratchet and Clank series
Lost Planet
Dead Space
GTA (I wouldn't enjoy this if it didn't have vehicles to drive :) )

Hate Playing:

Gears of War
Most other TPS

I'll also add (only as an addition to my list, not trying to change what this topic is about) that I haven't found a single FPS I love, Half-Life 2 is cool and I completed it but I had to make myself play through the game. I came close to liking Metroid Prime, I'm sure if I had MP3 I would enjoy it, aiming with the remote seems fun.
