I'm a big fan of both Paper Mario games (N64 and GCN), and was really disappointed to see that Super Paper Mario (Wii) was completely different.
So basically, I just want to know if anyone has played any of the Super Saga games because they seem a lot like the old Paper Mario games (and Mario RPG). Are they any good? Thanks!

They are pretty damn awesome IMO. The storyline isn't anything complicated, but the humor and gameplay is top notch. The game is fairly linear, but there's a good amount of secrets to find.
They are well worth the play.

I feel the same way. I loved the Paper Mario series, but absolutely hated Super Paper Mario.
I haven't played the DS version, but I've beaten the GBA version. It is absolutely awesome. It is at least as good as the Paper Mario series, maybe a little better. It's a very funny game. The graphics and music are just perfect. There are some interesting time-based battle mechanics. It is all around a great package. (and the battle animations are hilarious when Mario and Luigi are dancing).
I've heard that the DS version isn't as good as the GBA version, but it's still supposed to be good.

It's not really a "series" considering that it presently only consists of two games. But I am very much looking forward to the third.
The first has considerably more variety, but the second has more interesting battle mechanics, especially with the bosses. (Trying to pull off the "Advance" versions of the special attacks in the first one is darn near impossible.) On the whole the first is probably superior.

I got to play the third briefly at the show and it feels very much like the last DS game. I didn't really delve into the menus to compare much but I am looking forward to it as well.

The GBA version has one of the most difficult end bosses of any RPG I've played...and I've played a lot of RPG's. Definitely in the top 10 hardest of all time. Mainly because it involves luck rather than skill or technique. I ended up beating the game, but for awhile I thought it may never happen. Fun game, but damn tough end boss. I HAVE FURY indeed.

I HAVE FURY indeed.I must disagree. It's hard, and it is easy to get wiped out right at the start before you can do anything, but it's not that hard.
I should add that I really liked all the cool references to previous Mario games, like the Dr. Mario viruses, the Koopalings, and the Mushroom Kingdom Embassy. It even has the single re-appearance of Geno since SMRPG! There's some unused text (http://themushroomkingdom.net/mlss_lost.shtml) in the ROM that suggests there was going to be cameos from other Nintendo characters, too. It's a bit of a pity the second game didn't have such ambition.

Both games are awesome but I think I prefer the first one. The cameo from a certain character in the second game (who was only introduced in the first) was well worth the price of admission though. :-D

I LOVED the first one, being a fan of SMRPG and the Paper Marios myself.
It's not that the second one is bad--but to me, it wasn't that interesting. The entire game was linear IIRC, and the babies kept bothering me. It's worth trying, at least, but it may feel like a lot more of the same :)

Sounds like the first one is a blast. I got to pick this up sometime. Thanks!

I don't like RPGs, and HATE the Mario characters....I BEAT Superstar saga.
I think that says it all.
Well worth a purchase.

I love the GBA version. I find the DS version lack the same charm as the GBA. It is still recommended game, but it offers no replay value.

IN BEFORE LOCK!
I might be one of the lone voices of dissent here on this game. I like RPGs for the strategic battles, not necessarily the thumb-mashing...and Mario & Luigi for GBA (never bothered with the DS one cause I didn't finish the GBA one) had too much precision-button-pushing and attack memorization. The super-attacks you could unleash (and you had to memorize the patterns) were a bit much for me.
That, and the story really wasn't compelling enough whatsoever to make me want to complete it.

Same here. I think the DS version kinda pushed the battle system a little too roughly. Hopefully 3 isn't as over the top.

What appealed to you then?
I just picked up a copy off ebay. Looking foward to play it, but I got to get a SP for the backlight. (I wish my Super Gameboy worked with GBA)

Superstar Saga also uses the Rumble Pack when played on the Game Boy Player.

Ladies and gentlemen we have another!
Mario and Luigi is a fun and engaging spin on the traditional action RPG experience that blends equal doses of impressive technology, innovation, and humor.
Check out the gamespot review blurb at the top of the page. (http://www.gamespot.com/gba/rpg/marioandluigi/review.html)
Or just google his post, and see how many times it pops up on the net.
Maybe we should let this one slide since it's well placed. Plumbers? Come on...

At least it was plumbing spam??? Above user banned and all that fun stuff.
I've only played Mario & Luigi Partners in Time for the DS. It was fairly linear, not super hard, but I really liked it alot. I will gladly buy any new ones made in the series.
