OK, I certainly won't be spending the $1000 he's asking for this but it's the closest I've ever come to running across one and was wondering what it's actually worth.

Atari recalled ALL product from all distributors when the video game market crashed in the mid- 1980's. All that product (including the Columia Home Arcade) ended up being mashed with a steam roller, scooped into a hole in the desert and then capped with concrete. All that to prevent people from digging up the material and trying to use it. Effectively rendering it null and void. Never to be seen by humankind.

That is a quote from the ad. I thought that was ET?

Yeah, that's the general rumor/belief(?). Really, though, there is absolutely no evidence to support the idea, nor do the people 'in-the-know' who have been interviewed think so.

Yeah, the ad seems pretty over the top. That's what makes me think it's not worth $1000. I don't have any idea though.

I think I gave $150 or $200 for mine, but that was 4 or 5 years ago now.

Edit, just checked. I did a bulk deal when I got that one. Five years ago, got a boxed SMS with about 15 decent games, Boxed Gemini 2600, Columbia House 2600, and a boxed Atari Stunt Cycle for $350 shipped. Breaking it out, I don't think I paid a whole lot for the Columbia House system.

Saw that one too, and thought that it was a little overpriced. Really would rather just get a Gemini anyway...

Odd around here too, people seem to always have reasonable prices for everything on Craigslist.

It's hit and miss.

I do see far fewer of the crazies on CL than on eBay, etc.

I don't think it's smart when asking "What it's Worth" on a rare item when the seller offers shipping. If I had money right now, I would give him a offer.

Like I said though...I wasn't planning on buying it.
