We love Mario (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario). We mean, we're somewhat contractually obligated to, being huge nerds and all. Still, there's certain stages in the core Mario games that are simply excruciating to play -- we usually skip them during our nostalgic romps. That's why we can't help but admire the efforts of three men who are playing through (http://www.mariomarathon.com/) every Super Mario title -- collecting every star, completing every level and Shining every Get (http://lakupo.com/shinegetday/shine_get.jpg)! (Err -- getting every Shine.)
They're not doing this for fun, of course -- for the second year in a row, they're running through this "Mario Marathon," collecting donations for Child's Play (http://www.childsplaycharity.org/). They've already been at it for two days -- but with the team yet to totally complete Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Sunshine, then Super Mario Galaxy again (as that totally secret character), there's a lot of ballgame left to be played.http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif (http://www.joystiq.com)Madmen completing every Mario game for charity (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/12/madmen-completing-every-mario-game-for-charity/) originally appeared on Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com) on Sun, 12 Jul 2009 12:00:00 EST. Is this just all of the Mario platform titles, or does this include spin-offs?

I think it is cool that nerds like us can contribute this way

Why not Super Mario World 2?

That's really not that impressive. From the topic title I thought it was going to be every single Mario game ever made -- that would make them madmen. This is only 7 games.

I got to go with that. They aren't really madmen until they play Hotel Mario and sit through all the cutscenes.

I'm watching the live webcast now, but missed alot prior, wonder if they will release it fully later.
It's one thing to watch a video of someone beating Mario games, but watching a room full of people beating it live is pretty cool. Crying babies and all lol.

I enjoy people complaining about the amount of effort a group of people are putting into a charity fundraiser. I think this is pretty darn cool myself.

Cool.
But it would be MUCH COOLER if the cast of "Mad Men" competed in Super Mario Bros. for charity.

Frankie, I'd watch it if the red head on the left of the pic played all the Mario games...
*goes to add Mad Men to his Netflix queue*

It is cool, but the article quoted in the OP makes it sound like it's a lot more than it is.

The OP is a bot...it was just getting its info from an article. Its pretty amazing what it is anyways...
ANYWAYS...
Well these guys are still at it, just about 72 hrs. They made the Sunshine $$ goal on the last star on galaxy so now they have to 100% Sunshine.
It took them 18 hrs to 100% galaxy so im sure they will be able to raise a bunch more money with all the online game shops being open today (ign, pennyarcade etc etc)
Spread the word and send them some money!

I've been completing Mario games for years now. Is it too late to get a tax write off?

Why no Lost Levels? That technically is a MAIN Mario game. Yoshi's Island I can understand since that's different in terms of gameplay, but why no Lost Levels?

I knew I could come here and there would be people bitching about what games were left out or how it is not that impressive. I do not care if they played combat for 30 days, raising 25k is impressive.

"Now you see here, you got this guy named Mario who's supposed to be plumber. I suppose if you consider him going down giant pipes as part of his job, he's a plumber. *circles giant pipe* Now, he also eats mushrooms *lines around mushroom* and then gets big! That's crazy, he's big enough to PLAY SOME FOOTBALL! *rant about Mario playing football*"

They're really having a hard time with Sunshine atm.
They have 100% all except Sunshine, you can watch the webcast right now and see they are getting a bit frustrated with it, lol.

Id imagine. They have been playing it for just about 15hrs now. I still say they have another 10-12 hrs to go. Then again i've been saying that for a while but they are SLOWLYYYY making progress.
Guess we will see where they are when I wake up in 7 hrs. Im saying 112 Stars

"You know though...if this Mario guy were actually Brett Favre, he's just go BOOM all over these mushrooms and turtles."
Sorry man, you missed the one thing mandatory in a Madden impression...the Brett Favre man-love.

That's awesome. The reason I wouldn't be able to do this is because I'm the kind of idiot who runs into those fireballs that raise out of the lava twice in a row. So it would take me a little longer to do this >_>

Wow..So I am up now 7 hrs later approx and they are still on the same amount of stars :/
Edit: Actually they are collecting all the blue coins. They have 204 so they need 36 more. So there at approx 116 stars

Woke up this morning and they were down to like the last few blue coins, it says on the feed that they finished at 9 am, approximately 24 hours to get 100%. I didn't see it live but here is the end:http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/1806768
The conversations and atmosphere were so hardcore about 12 am last night. Talking about missing work and doing it for the children, gotta give them cred for not giving up which they could have easily done. In the end they truly did seem like madmen, lol, he even went and said the ole "agh, the sunlight is out"! They was trippin old school.
Awesome event.

Mario is a much better marathon game imo as it takes more reflexes, much more fun to watch, plus those guys were so into it it was great. I can't believe this one has already raised 30k...o_O, unbelievable.
