View Full Version : Are all hookups for systems that expensive?

I've been searching for some hookups for my Genesis 2 I found, and it seems like the AC adaptor and the AV cables are about 10 dollars plus seperately. I was lucky enough to be able to trade for an AC adaptor with someone on this board, but it just seems like a lot to me.

So, have the hookups for systems always been this high? I'm mostly searching ebay, but it just seems like a lot to me.

Ebay is gonna be expensive most of the time.

Check your local flea market, I find cables all the time for $1-2 at most.

Yeah, it sucks to have to buy any cables off of ebay. I also hate trying to search for OEM parts because of all the power sellers hawking imported garbage. AC adapters are the worst as it seems hard to find any good deals on ebay- probably because of their weight.

I make it a point to look at the cable/ac adapter bins at thrift stores, in case they harbor any needed spare parts. I often find genesis and Nintendo adapters for under $3. Or you can trade with someone here, which is what I sometimes do.

Yep, that's the average going rate. Sometimes local retro stores will have after-market stuff for $5 or so.

I come across Genny power supplies pretty often in thrift stores, I've never felt the need to buy a new one.

If I ever had any spare RF switches, power adapters, or controllers that I wanted to sell, I'd ask for $5 each. I usually come across systems with hookups or just the bare system, coming across loose hookups doesn't happen as often for me and when I do they're pretty close to $5.

Also, AV cables for the Genesis(either model 1 or 2) are harder to find compared to the RF switches, I can understand them being $10 for 1st party(I wouldn't personally pay that much for them though). AV cables for Nintendo systems are easier to find since they're all pretty much the same, the SNES/N64/Gamecube all used the same cable and since they came standard with the N64 upwards they're much easier to find compared to Genesis cables.

Around here I can find them occasionally at my local Goodwill for a few bucks. I definitely would steer clear of ebay when searching for "just" cables/adapters.
